Should Apple buy AMD?

SeekingAlpha blogger “Tech101” gives 10 reasons why Apple should buy AMD.

Among Tech101’s reasons:
• Apple’s best computer system architecture, operation system [sic], user interface, and applications will combine with AMD’s most advanced and genuine multi-core CPUs and energy saving technology
• Intel will gain a more balanced competitor, which is healthy for the entire semiconductor industry, and even Intel may benefit from it
• It will keep AMD American

Complete inanity here.

MacDailyNews Take: And now you know why his handle is Tech101. When he finishes the class, maybe he’ll understand that it would make more sense for Apple to buy Orange Julius than AMD.

  1. oh HAHAHHHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!

AMD SUCKS!.. I was a long time hopefull fan.. but letdown after letdown + the core architechture from intel has led me astray.. AMD is 2 years behind as far as I am concerned.. and when they bought ATi all they got were their headaches… ATi couldnt make a stable driver or chipset if their company depended on it.. WHY do you think they sold in the first place?? THEY BOTH SUCK!!!!!!

as it is I wish apple would switch to nvidia cards exclusively in macs.. ati and amd can lick it… I cant tell you how much they piss me off…

    PC system builder here…

  2. Apple does not need to buy any company just for the sake of buying. They should continue to invest in R&D;as they currently have. At the rate they are going, Apple will continue to be the lead dog…as the saying goes, the scenery does not change unless you are the lead dog. I’m hoping that’s what Apple is doing.

  3. Keeping AMD “American” is a lousy reason for someone to buy it. Anyone planning to argue that one?
Giving Intel a better grade of competition is a much better reason, but Apple is not about to switch CPUs at this point – not unless AMD has something cooking that I have yet to hear about.
Apple just might be interested in buying into the Graphics Card business, some of their “consumer” goods could use a real boost in that area, but buy the whole company for it? I don’t always feel that MDN’s acerbic takes are warranted, but this one is right on. This article is an intellectual exercise based on AMD’s problems rather than on Apple’s needs. This suggestion is a great solution for AMD but a lousy option for Apple. And forget substituting “Dell” for Apple. Maybe HP?

  4. I don’t want M$ to buy Adobe. I would rather Apple buy them than M$, if it must be so. The iPhone needs to support Flash! There are just way too many flash sites out there, like them or not. Soon, the whole internet will be Flash and Apple needs to see that now and not later…battery powerdrain or not.

  5. This crap again? This stupid “Apple should buy AMD” speculation seems to pop up every once in awhile. The people espousing it’s virtues are usually brain damaged. I see this case is no exception. More proof that any jackass can have a blog.

  6. Usually when Apple buys another company, it’s a relatively small, unknown company. AMD would be pretty uncharacteristic. I agree with Georgy Porgy, though – I’d rather Apple bought Adobe just to keep MS from doing so when they realize that they can’t beat them. Although the gov’t would probably never allow either of them to buy Adobe.

  7. ” . . . it would make more sense for Apple to buy Orange Julius . . .”
Naah. They already have a nice Shake. Maybe they could buy Fry’s instead.

Thanks for that. Now I have to clean the coffee off my screen.

    Apple should buy Rob Enderle.

Then they would have someone at the counter capable of a dumb look asking “Do you want Fry’s with that?”

  8. • It will keep AMD American

1969 – AMD incorporates with $100,000; establishes headquarters in Sunnyvale, California.

Wether Apple buys AMD or not – where is AMD headed – I mean
s some other country gonna buy them out.

Also, Apple is an American company – agreed?
So the PRODUCTS it BROUGHT to market are AMERICAN – right!

So, if 99% of the components are assembled / ordered else where IT DOES NOT make the product TIWANESE!!! Simplly because next year the components may come from an array of other suppliers.

Buying AMD is not such a bad thing… however why would APPLE wish to do this… SPECIALLY when Apple is EXTREMELY happy with Intel and has gone to the extent to let Intel fabricate iMAC assembly with Intel.

Nope… not a good idea. Point three is pointless as are most of the ten reasons… hahahahahah balanced competition… AMD can do that without Apples involement.

WHERE do these dreams come from…

APPLE keep your money. Spend it on advance research and design to REMAIN ahead of all the competition.
