CNN: Don’t eat your Apple iPhone, iPod, or their earbuds

“If CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta had his way, when you unwrapped your new iPod or iPhone this Christmas, there might be the following warning label:

SURGEON GENERAL’S WARNING: Ingesting or inhaling your iPhone or iPod earbuds may be hazardous to your health.

Poor reports, “The November 9 CNN “American Morning” warned of the dangers of iPods. The screen read ‘IPOD & IPHONE DANGER – CAN THEY HURT YOU?'”

“Gupta reported that the cord connecting the earbuds to your iPod contain phthalates, according to the litigious Center for Environmental Health. Phthalates are a substance often used for increasing the flexibility of plastics, but according to an article on macnn.com phthalates ‘may hinder the sexual development of mammals,” Poor reports. “But even Gupta did not say that using an iPod or an iPhone as intended would be dangerous… ‘So the immediate takeaway is, don’t eat your iPhone or your earbuds?’ asked CNN co-anchor John Roberts. ‘Or breathe it in,’ Gupta replied.”

We guess Apple wasn’t kidding back in January 2005 when they said Do not eat iPod shuffle.

  1. First post!

Uh, yeah, and tie your shoe laces. Brush your teeth. Wash your hands.

Really, the government needs to legislate common sense. I think it is high time we get serious about this.

And, don’t forget, idiot is a bad word to describe some one who is other wise a MORON.

  2. Jeesh!

I knew the world was heading to a terminal state when Starbucks had to warn customers that the contents of a coffee cup may be hot. Now this!!!

Have we completely forgotten the concept of personal responsibility: you eat an earbud=you reap the consequences?!?! It’s no one else’s responsibility.

    Grow up!

  3. Next piece of news from ‘Dr’ Gupta (MBBS in Quackery): Don’t bend over and sniff your balls while playing tennis. I mean why would anyone with a sane mind want to eat his iPhone/iPod earbud? What a nutter.

  4. No news is good news as the saying goes, so they give you no news on the news so that you feel good about it. Better not say anything bad on the news, people might not like it and turn to another channel, be entertaining instead, people like that.

    Meanwhile in real life ………..

  5. Gupta’s an idiot… this isn’t the first time he’s made these type of dubious reports where the facts are just vague assertions or flat out wrong. Remember the big dust up between him and Michael Moore during Sicko’s release?

  6. you people make it sound like cnn is stupid to report this, but what about the lead paint in kids toy issue? Obiously kids shouldn’t be eating dolls and other toys, but the reality is, they do. My daugter puts things in her mouth all the time. So, that means, she would put iPod ear phones in her mouth, or very close to her nose and not even realize she shouldn’t be doing it. So you say, “well don’t let your kid have it.” It’s funny though how many things my daughter kids a hold of that I don’t want her to have.

We keep all our household cleaners in cabinets where she can’t get to them because we know how dangerous they are. But, I would never guess that a pair of earphones was that dangerous, and they shouldn’t be so.

  7. @maniMac

Time to buy more shares… unless you think the world is gone tomorrow.. If that, then enjoy the last few hours before the meteor hits!

I had a client ask me what he should do because Apple’s shares had dropped to $65.00 a share. I told him to buy more.

Hmmmm… be of good cheer. It means you can get more for less!

  8. Moore — ostensibly a United States citizen — was forbidden from traveling to Cuba. Gupta was right then. Not only that, but Sicko is a freaking joke. Cuba’s health care is the envy of the Western world? I’ve got oceanfront property in Colorado for you if you’re going to swallow that. As for now, Gupta is wrong. He still has more brains than Michael Moore does. Then again, so does your average glue stick.

  9. So, does this mean that it’s safe to eat other MP3 players and their associated earbuds – just so long as it doesn’t have an Apple logo on it?

Perhaps the Apple logo, being a depiction of an edible object, opens the doors to such nonsense.

  10. Fact:
George Bush will leave office the following:

    1. The worst unemployment record in history. (Keep in mind, Dept. of Labor only reports new unemployment insurance claims to calculate the numbers. When a person runs out of unemployment insurance, they are NOT counted in the remaining numbers.

    2. Worst stock market performance in histoy. (Yes, you Republican fools, when Clinton left the Dow was at 12,000. Almost 8 years later, we are barely above 13,000.)

    3. Worst environmental record (he hires a mining lobbylist to head the Mine Safety Dept., which stops enforcing fines of mine operators. This is why we’re having mine collapses.)

    4. Worst violence record. (Under Clinton, violence was down dramatically; under Bush, it’s going up)

    5. Worst home market since the Depression.

    6. Worst performance of the dollar, ever.

    7. Most deficits ever, in real terms and in inflation-adjusted terms.

    8. Worst war performance ever. (Iraq has lasted longer than World War 2. What have we gained so far, other than make Iran and al-Qaeda more powerful? Nothing. Clinton presided over the wars in Eastern Europe that stopped genocide, and we had not one U.S. death. NOT ONE.

There are quotes of Sean Hannity, claiming the war in Bosnia was a fraud, to help Clinton’s image, and that “the President has no plan.” “He’s going to get our boys killed.” Guess what, sucker, we won the war! And not a single US soldier died!!

    9. Wages going down. Meanwhile, payroll taxes have gone up. And the dollar is down over 10%. Guess what, Republicans, your precious tax cut has helped no one! All Americans, due to the dollar’s fall, have gotten a 10% paycut!!

    10. Oil at an all-time high. Nuff said.

    11. Foreign policy blunders like claiming we love democracy in Iraq – yet, we support nothing but dictators and strongmen in the Middle East — in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, UAE, Yemen, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt.

    12. Nuclear foreign policy disasters – we try to stop Iran from getting nukes, yet we appease North Korea who already has one!

    13. LOL Eight years later, we have given up on even find Osama. What a joke.

    14. Took us to war based on lies. (Despite the Plame thing, the documents re: Iraq WERE PROVEN TO BE FORGERIES. AND WE HAVE NEVER INVESTIGATED WHO FORGED THEM.

    15. Katrina. While Harry Connick and Sean Penn were saving lives, our government claimed they couldn’t get in the city that first five days. LOL Even John Travolta loaded up his personal 747 and flew down there with supplies.

    16. Broken military. Don’t believe me, read Military Times and listen to the generals. FACT: The Pentagon is looking into letting new recruits into the military who have FELONY CRIMINAL RECORDS, INCLUDING DRUG ABUSE CONVICTIONS.

Bush and Cheney committed treason by outing a CIA spy. Whether you believe she was covert or not – if a low level FBI agent leaked her name and agent status to say, Iran, and let them know Plame was investigating Iran/Iraq nuclear efforts via a front company named Brewster Jennings they would BE TRIED FOR TREASON AND ESPIONAGE.

Can you imagine the outrage, if Hillary and Al Gore leaked the name of a CIA agent during the Bosnian war? And that they leaked the name of this CIA agent to a liberal writer at the NY Times, because the agent dared to say Clinton lied about the war in Bosnia?!!

Imagine that Hillary was caught saying “she’s fair game” about the agent?

Then, what if Congress and the liberal media was caught parsing words by saying, “well, the CIA agent wasn’t covert at the time so it doesn’t matter!”

And imagine if say, Sandy Berger was the guy who helped leak this stuff and he was convicted but Bill Clinton pardons him right before he goes to jail?!!!

Can you imagine the vein-busting outrage by the Republicans? Certainly, there would be an attempt on his life… And he would most certainly be impeached and they would have tried Clinton for treason AND hung the death penalty out there as a possibility.
