“CCP Games on Tuesday released a Macintosh version of EVE Online, its Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) set in outer space. A free 14-day trial is available for download with no credit card required; EVE Online costs $14.95 per month to play thereafter (the first month costs $19.95),” Peter Cohen reports for Macworld.
“EVE was converted to the Intel Mac using Cider, the same TransGaming-made technology that’s led to almost a dozen other Macintosh game releases in 2007, including six titles from Electronic Arts (EA), GameTap Lite, the forthcoming GameTap Deluxe, Heroes of Might and Magic V, X3: Reunion and Myst Online: Uru Live,” Cohen reports.

Awesome, but a bit pricey. Have to see whether i want to add it to my Gametap and SL expenses.
Thisis an amazing game all the same.
Cider? I am allergic to the stuff!!! it makes me rot!!!!!!!
Too bad all the mac people are already hooked on WoW….
Does anyone know if “Cider” results in a performance hit? Is the Windows version faster?
Thanks!
slowly but surely…
No issues here with Cider and URU Live
iMac C2D 2.16GHz, 2 gig RAM
The title got me excited because I’ve always wanted to play that game. But it’s only for Intel, and playing games on a MacBook is lame. Oh well, I’ll just have to hope Apple releases the mini Pro soon.
This isn’t a particularly intensive game, so I doubt it would be noticeable on new-ish hardware… and since virtually all intel macs are new-ish hardware, in other words it shouldn’t be a problem.
I’ve heard this is a bit like an MMORPG made out of the Escape Velocity series by Ambrosia.
“I’ll just have to hope Apple releases the mini Pro soon.”
Mini = consumer machine
Pro = .. well pro.
It’s sorta like saying you can’t wait for diet alfredo sauce.
sorry….i already had my first hit of wow…too late EVE
G Spank: Yes and don’t call me Shirley.
I’m totally jazzed about this. I loved the visually stunning graphics of Homeworld and EVE looks just as tasty.
So very happy!
MDN “coming” as in – all over the keyboard.
This is a little bit off topic, but I have been playing Half Life 2 on my year old iMac, and it runs perfectly smooth at the maximum graphics settings. I want to say FU to everyone who said Macs aren’t good for games because they don’t come with $2000 graphics cards. Half Life 2 runs excellent on my iMac, with 1.8 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB Ram, and a 128MB ATI RADEON GRAPHICS CARD! The only conclusion from this experience is that the whole high-end graphics card market is scam, and anyone who has paid more then $200 on a graphics card for gaming has been ripped off.
@ mfshroom:
Is that via Bootcamp, Parallels or even Crossover?
Eve needing cider for an Apple? I don’t remember that in the Good Book…..
WoW is 79 for 6 mos, bout the same as Eve, just a wee bit less, methinks, but when ya got multi accounts already, it’ll kill your extra pay gaming. Plus, Eve is just OK… Personally, I LOVE KILLING HORDIES!
I’m also just finished playing half-life 2 and am now playing HL2 Episode 1 on my 2.8C2E. I am playing through Crossover. I only have a handful of Windows only applications I need for school so I didn’t want to deal with the hassles associated with installing Windows. The games crash every so often but if that is the price I pay for not having to deal with Windows, I call it a fair trade. So far, every Macintosh game I play is looking amazing at highest settings.
So now are the Mac players going to form a corporation and Ally up with a Linux corp and take on Band of Brothers?
NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Oh god.
Oh no.
No life due to WOW as it is…
EVE online.
Dear lord..
EVE online.. gulp.. arrrrgh… crap.. oh no…
