“Some solution providers say pre-orders of Apple’s forthcoming Leopard operating system are more than double the volume for the same time prior to the last major Mac OS release, and point to new features and dissatisfaction with Microsoft Vista as key drivers,” Edward F. Moltzen reports for CMP Channel.
“Apple is set to launch Mac OS X 10.5, also known as Leopard, on Oct. 26,” Moltzen reports.
“‘We’ve probably doubled the backorders of Leopard, compared to what we did with Tiger,’ said Patrick Brown, CEO of Brown Computer Solutions, a Brattleboro, Vt.-based solution provider and Apple specialist. ‘With the Intel Macs, Apple has significantly increased the installed base. We do expect a very successful launch,'” Moltzen reports.
Moltzen reports, “Chris Gear, marketing director for Macforce, a Portland, Ore.-based Apple specialist, agreed with the assessment of brisk pre-ordering for Leopard and said a combination of the long upgrade cycle, plus tepid reviews for Microsoft Vista, has created a strong sales environment. ‘More than anything, it has to do with the biggest growth coming from ‘switchers’ — people switching from the Windows platform,’ Gear said.”

“Vendors are now selling again PCs with XP installed. “
That must just be Macs selling with XP preinstalled. Most other machines have hardware configurations and graphics accelerators good enough to run Vista just fine. Vista sales have already totally eclipsed Mac OS X sales.
Apple doesn’t need to parade with a big show (like for vista’s crap) when providing a quality OS… The user’s jugement is far enough to spread the evidence!
I thought Vista was the latest carrier for viruses that allows organized crime to flourish.
I’m gonna dress up like Bill Gates for Haloween.
@kitty litter
Not true.
There are huge enterprise sales of new PCs that are back to XP. We just re-equipped our company with new PCs running XP. Our IT guys have had massive problems trying to implement Vista into older networks.
All this talk about buying iMacs, MacBook Pros & all that are really tempting me!
Any chance one of you can buy an extra set and send it down over to my place? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
No, seriously.
@Zune Tang
Dress like Bill gates for Haloween eh!!!
Now that is scary however if you really want to freak people out I would suggest you dress like Steve Ballmer ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
Just don’t forget plenty of fake sweat and carry a chair with you!!!
I prefer macsales.com. They don’t bill until it ships. Best support staff (they’re NOT in India), friendly midwesterners, IL I think.
Actually it is true. You can get *again* PCs with XP installed rather than Vista. The new OS is such a flop that vendors like Dell, HP, and others offer customers to choose XP over Vista in their new computers. This has NEVER EVER happened before.
Kitty MS fanboy, you should *think* and getting actually informed before writing.
Pre-ordered mine from Amazon!
