Report: 800 Apple Retail Store employees fired for fraud

“We’ve been told that as many as 800 Apple Store retail associates who received free iPhones have also cashed in on the $100 iPhone credit that Apple issued for early buyers,” David Chartier reports for Ars Technica.

“Apple understandably wasn’t too happy about shelling out an extra ~$80,000 to employees who already scored free iPhones, so pink iSlips have apparently been issued to the bunch,” Chartier reports.

  1. I cannot understand why you would risk even a minimum wage job for 100 bucks. It doesn’t make ANY sense. Especially if they just gave you a $300 phone. I mean if you really need the cash you could always e-bay the damn thing.

On 2nd thought, maybe they did. That would be sooooo funny if that was the answer. That let’s say 30% actually tried to pull the scam. and 70% just e-bayed the phone because the didn’t want to switch carriers or some other reasonable reason not to keep the iphone. Then the when the peeps that purchased the e-bay items decided to cash in, the employees get nailed.

I don’t think we have heard the last of this.

  2. I think this whole thing was a brilliant plan to weed out the least honest and most undesirable employees in the company. What a simple but fantastic way to test the integrity of the people who work for you. Too bad so many Apple associates have such poor moral character.

  3. Good. Serves them right.

But that’s what happens when you get away from what Apple retail used to do which was hire competent, mature people, and switch to filling the stores with warm bodies who are only there for extra beer money.

  4. What iHoles! They are GIVEN a phone, that people are lining up to buy, for FREE, and then want an extra sneaky hundred.

What is it about human nature sometimes that is so predictable?

Materialism and me first mentality rules.

I say GOOD RIDDANCE to the lot of them!
