MacDailyNews Take: We and about 25 million other Mac users certainly weren’t waiting for it – except perhaps for a few laughs; we’ve had the world’s most advanced operating system for many years now.
Resinger continues, “…it has turned out to be one of the biggest blunders in technology. With a host of issues that are inexcusable and features that are taken from the Mac OS X and Linux playbook, Microsoft has once again lost sight of what we really want.”
MacDailyNews Take: What you really want is a Mac, even if you don’t know it, yet.
Resinger continues, “The first indication that Microsoft should abandon Vista is its poor sales figures. According to a recent report titled “Windows Vista Still Underperforming in U.S. Retail” from NPD, Vista sales are significantly behind XP sales during its early days. Even worse for Redmond, some are reverting to XP, citing issues with compatibility and overall design. And if that wasn’t enough, Macs continue to surge and with the impending release of Leopard, Microsoft may be in for a rough holiday season.”
Resinger writes, “With each passing day, it’s becoming blatantly clear that Microsoft released Vista too early…”
MacDailyNews Take: Too early?! Years of delays and you waited for what? A chrome-plated turd.
Resinger continues, “…and the company’s continual mistakes and promises that can’t be kept are further annoying the Windows faithful.”
MacDailyNews Take: The only “Windows faithful” are those that haven’t used a Mac.
Resinger continues, “Much talk has been given to Service Pack 1 and how this update should address many of the issues users have with Vista, but I simply don’t agree. Will SP1 eliminate the ridiculous Microsoft licensing schemes? Will SP1 drop the price on the higher-end versions? Will SP1 eliminate the need for users to buy a new computer just to use the faulty OS?”
MacDailyNews Take: No. No. And no.
Resinger continues, “SP1 will do nothing but fix the holes and issues we currently know about and create even more. As we all know from the days of Windows ME and even XP, Microsoft is not the best company at finding and addressing security issues, and chances are, Vista will be no different.”
Resinger writes, “One significant problem that I have with Vista is its inclusion of new DRM… we’re not even allowed to backup our favorite movies? Come on.”
MacDailyNews Take: Yes, come on. Take the red pill, awaken, and Get a Mac.
Resinger continues, “I also find it interesting that Microsoft decided to take the user access control concept from Mac OS X and make it much worse… Never before have I seen such an abysmal start to an operating system release… The road ahead looks dangerous for Vista and Microsoft must realize that. With Mac OS X hot on its tail, Vista is simply not capable of competing at an OS level with some of the best software around. If Microsoft continues down this path, it will be Vista that will bring the software giant to its knees–not Bill Gates’ departure.”
“As a daily user of Mac OS X, Ubuntu and Vista, I’m keenly aware of what works and what doesn’t. Mac and Linux work,” Resinger writes. “The time is up. Microsoft must abandon Vista and move on.”

MacDailyNews Take: There’s yet another nice Vista review. Window-only sufferers who’ve arrived here looking for Vista news: The news is grim. When you finally tire of trying to make your upside-down and backwards fake Macs work, Apple is waiting for you with the real thing. Yes, we’re biased. And we’re also right. We’ve used both Macs and Windows PCs quite recently, have you?

With Windows losing steam and Office under increasing competition, the only two revenue generators are beginning to stutter, and everything else at Microsoft is only dead weight.

I sat down in front of Windows VISTA to spend my first day with it last week.
I do not have the words to express how awful an experience this was. All of the people who build and maintain Macintosh OS X should be profoundly insulted anytime any idiot takes it upon themselves to compare VISTA to Mac OS X.
The simplest of tasks such as getting the computer connected to the network were obscured and obfuscated by so much pure unadulterated crap that it took forever to accomplish these tasks.
I shouldn’t be answering questions about VPNs and PPPoE, just to plug the cable in and see if the machine gets an IP address.
The user wanted to adjust the monitor and we eventually wound up in some nutty NVIDIA control panel that managed to turn the monitor completely black. It took at least 30 minutes to recover from that.
To say that I am disappointed is a horrible understatement. All the people who compared VISTA to the Mac clearly have never used Mac OS X and have no &*&^&^ idea what the hell they are talking about.

Microsoft can’t dump Vista – there’s nothing to fall back on. Unless Microsoft has been developing the Vista successor alongside of Vista and no one leaked the info, there’s no hope.
Microsoft would have to philosophically change and dump all of the legacy support for DOS, Win 3.1, etc. and start anew. Ain’t gonna happen, not with Microsoft so utterly dependent upon corporate IT departments buying millions of PCs every year to run the same old software.
The main problem with Vista is that it is dragging all this legacy code from Windows NT, 95, probably Windows 3 and DOS too.
The best option for Microsoft would be to start working on creating a modern OS, from scratch, ditching all that legacy baggage, and replacing that whole DLL system with something less retarded.
I doubt Microsoft is competent enough to do this, or even understand why this is imperative.

Indeed. We NEED M$ to continue doing what they’re doing. Without Windows’ horrific issues, we might all forget just how good the Mac really is. In fact every day, Windows makes me thankful that I get to use a Mac at home. Keep it up M$! Pleeeease keep doing what you’re doing… whatever it is!

Vista is not designed for people to use. It is designed for Corporate IT departments and vast, vast arrays of terminals for employees to work on Office. Microsoft’s customers could care less that it is intuitive. As long as it can handle getting your work to you as cheaply as possible, that is the true goals of corporate IT, thus the true goals of Microsoft and Vista. You know, it would probably be a much better tool, if they just focused on that side of their business and ignored the consumer side of PCs.
I’m not sure Vista’s even made for them. I think Vista is the save-our-ass version of what Longhorn was supposed to be. All teh Shiny® is an attempt to cover their tracks.

I do expect that MS may get some things right in the next version, whenever that comes out. By that time, I think they have an excuse to change direction. Just expect a 50GB disk that contains all past versions of windows and a quick little control program that will allow for startup of the right lil’ bits. It’ll be a testament to more-is-more. People will eat it up. And choke.

So, now consider if you have to live with VIsta and all its problems for say, 6 months. Then you get to go back to using a Mac. Just how bad would the Apple hardware and software be then???
That is where most of us are coming from. We have to or had to use PCs with XP or Vista and it sucked. So when there is some minor issue with Apple hardware or their practices, its no big deal to us. LOL
We are not really fanboys, just intelligent computer users who have seen “the dark side” and are just happier here in the light.

I tried to connect to a VPN using Vista. It didn’t work. Vista gave me an error message that said, among other things, that I should make sure the computer was on!
So I connected to the Microsoft-based VPN with a Mac.

Apple should ask pc users to trade their Windows Vista disks for a $200 Rebate in your next Imac with Leopard installed.
Or must create Mac OS X 10.5 Lite a short time System that can be installed in PCs running Windows to give Windows users a glance of what Apple has under sleeves.

MS supports that rotten bastard child HD-DVD. What do those disks top out at… 20GB?
Blu-ray supports 50GB disks. THey’ve even tested 200GB disks.
Hopefully HD-DVD will be dead and gone before Vis2 comes out.
