Apple iPod touch unboxing photos

“The iPod touch just went on sale, so we made our way down to get one before the Apple Stores even admitted they had them in stock. Hidden away in cabinets behind the register, they were only being sold to those who asked for them by name,” Daniel Eran Dilger reports for AppleInsider.

“We raced home with a 16GB model and took some quality unboxing and iPhone comparison photos,” Dilger reports.

“The touch comes in a box similar to the iPhone, but only about half as deep,” Dilger reports. “On the cover is Corinne Bailey Rae… The touch itself is a few millimeters thinner than the iPhone; 8 mm versus 11.6 mm, but it appears to be about half as thick and feels considerably thinner in the hand.”

Much more, including comparison photos with iPhone, 30GB 3G iPod, and unboxing shots here.

  1. My sentiments exactly, Ray.

I was going over the dimensions of the iPod lineup last night.

The 80gb iPod is THINNER than the iPhone! Can you believe that?

The 160gb is only about 2mm thicker than the iPhone.

With this in mind, imagine how thin a device with a 30gb hard drive could be.

I find it hard to believe that a company with such engineering prowess couldn’t find a way to get a HDD in the iPod touch with little to no effect on thickness while overcoming power consumption issues.

Nevertheless I’m still considering an iPod touch.

  2. Streaming audio would be very cool – given you had an internet connection – like at Starbucks or similar place or home (for free)

That would require iTunes – I don’t know – maybe you can do it??

    Anyone know?

If not, it seems to me that the deals that Apple made with AT&T;& Music corps. has restricted the capabilities of both iPhone and iPod Touch.

And where was your degree in electronic engineering from again?

  4. HD based iPod touch is due next year.. this is the start of transition years were Apple introduces the touch and see’s how popular it is. Then moves to Flash and adds hard drive model next year, then to a nano model the following year. If Apple had replaced nano and the classic with the touch interface everyone who has been using scroll wheels would be up in arms on how much the touch sucks over the old scroll wheel. Apple is priming the customers for the future with the iPod Touch. Think of it as an introduction to the future.
