  1. Yeah, blowing them out is right. With the new 64GB capacities available in NAND technology, I’ll bet these are the last you will see of a 4GB model. The next gen were rumored to be out Oct/Nov timeframe and I’ll bet they have a much larger storage capacity…

  2. iTihink Apple underestimated the initial demand for the iPhone.

Well iGuess it’s best to have too much inventory than not enough to meet demand. One always has the choice to lower the price to clear out the excess.

Of course the 4 GB and the 8 GB has got to go by the new year because January MacWorld has iPhone Rev. 2.

iPhone 1.0 was a good concept, but 2.0 builds on the mistakes and needs of consumers.

Some are thinking Apple is going with the iPod Touch primarily with a seperate optional add on that will give it the cell phone features.

  3. My nuts feel lighter after the price cut. I am typing this on my 8Gb model.

I was never upset about paying the extra 200$ as an early adopted. Those who were that pissed off maybe shouldn’t have bought one because they can’t afford it. Plus as a shareholder of aapl of over 3 years it bothers me a little but I’m glad more peasants can afford it now.

  4. Goldfishy… C’mon… Education already gets fat discounts. And students off all kinds shouldnt even be buying the iphone… They should be buying books and ramen noodles. The monthly cost can kill them alone. Anyone who went to college knows what im talking about… Its insane as a college student buying expensive designer clothes.

  5. Jester, I think you miss my point.

The point is that it simply isn’t there. All the other clearance items are there at the same price, no extra discount. Why not include the low-cost clearance iPhone on that page as well? Why is that one item not included when all the other clearance items are there? And I know plenty of college students who manage to have ample funding for their educations from a variety of sources (sadly, I was not one of them).

  6. Geez… Just because you guys heard this before anyone else and its not “new” to you why blast MDN for posting it? Its news to many people who check out this blog.

Goldfishy… I think its responsible to not offer a device with a monthly obligation in the education portal. That’s how credit card companies screw over many college kids…by giving them a tshirt, water bottle, and a credit card and giving them an obligation that they can’t sustain. Its like giving someone a dog for their birthday… Its cute the first few days but now they’re stuck taking care of it for years to come. Not unless of course they sacrifice it.

  7. Nooooooo! They are giving iPhones for “free” before we even have the possibility to buy those 899€ each! Damn it! It is so wrong! They should ship those phones to Europe. They would get much more money out. AAPL just nose dived 10%

(899€ was the first weeks estimated price at Amazon.de for the 4 GB model. 8 GB model was 999€ both with the price guarantee if the price drops. 8 GB was number one and 4 GB was number three at their list for over two weeks before Apple managed to get them to remove those.)

  8. @Basty
You should know by now that there are people in this world who don’t read all the info and then whine. Case in point: the dunderhead that’s suing Apple claiming he’s locked into getting service only from AT&T;.

  9. Basty:
“I love how MDN listed all the features of the iPhone, as if there are lots of people that are going to read this article that have no idea what an iPhone is.”

I’ve seen MDN’s headlines on the front page of Google News. The “no idea” people might also be the “curious and click” people. How do you think the trolls get here (besides parental subsidies)?

  10. HELLO — 16 Gb iPhone — which shall sell at the $599 entry level.

Apple was on target long ago!

Great plan. Wonderful way to clear inventory.

    thx

NOTE to APPLE… PLS add a SD CARD slot to iPhone!!!

So I can buy a iPhone 16Gb and add a 8 or 16 or 32 or even a 64 Gb card to KEEP this baby PUMPED or PIMPED.
