Uh oh, Madonna’s latest – ‘The Beat Goes On’ – leaks on eve of Apple event

“I know, I know, so much Madonna news. With a new Madonna album on the horizon, the coverage of M isn’t going to get any lighter people! So, the full version of ‘The Beat Goes On’ has leaked to the internet and for the most part it sounds finished. It’s shaping up to be ‘Bedtime Stories Part 2,’ which is a good thing. Madonna starts it off with ‘Let’s do something different, let’s change things up’ and with that I’ll send you on your way — you’ll have to find this one yourself,” Poolparty reports.

Apple’s email invitations to the media for their special event at Moscone West in San Francisco tomorrow at 10am PDT feature the phrase “The Beat Goes On.”

Last week, we mentioned that “The Beat Goes On” was a song released by Sonny and Cher in 1967. The phrase also appears on Sonny Bono’s tombstone and also appeared in The Beatles final press release, issued April 10, 1970, which led many to believe that The Beatles would be coming to iTunes Store tomorrow.

Now, we have this Madonna monkey wrench thrown into the mix. (Madonna was featured in the first Motorola ROKR with Apple iTunes commercial).

MacDailyNews Take: Not that there’s anything wrong with Madonna, but God help Steve Jobs if he’s planning on dashing the media’s expectations for The Beatles with some Madonna album plug / iPod+iTunes tie-in. Jobs and Apple would be roasted on a spit at the media barbecue tomorrow. Let’s hope “The Beat Goes On” is just a weird coincidence, but we’ve got a queasy feeling… pass the BBQ sauce.

  1. <<She proved that a child living with his father can still be an orphan. All you need is a fake British accent and a ton of money.>>

Kid had been abandoned. Can’t we all just move on now?

It’s fine to criticize her music (liked the early stuff, not the later stuff), or her politics (a little obvious, for me), her taste in fashion (loved the Jean-Paul Gaultier phase) or her sexuality (bring it on). But the people who trash her completely are like the people who trash all Apple products, sight unseen. Opinions not to be respected.

    My two cents…

  2. “…This is 2007, not 1987. Madonna isn’t relevant these days to anyone under 40….”

Umm, in case you haven’t heard Madonna’s last album “Confessions on the dance floor” when to number one in 14 countries and was certified 3x platinum in the US. Not to mention her SOLD-OUT worldwide Confessions Tour and four top 20 singles from the album.

That’s about as relevant as any major artist gets these days.

  3. “This is 2007, not 1987. Madonna isn’t relevant these days to anyone under 40….”

In 2005-06, Hung Up (Madonna’s lead single from Confessions on a Dance Floor) retired at Number 1 on MTV’s TRL (teen/tween demographic). Also, she held the number one song in the world for 22 straight weeks (Hung Up for 15, Sorry for the following 7) and was the first artist in the history of the chart to hold the number 1 and number 2 song in the same week. Her summer 2006 tour grossed almost $200 million (number 2 for the summer and the top female tour).

You may not like her. You may think she’s a hack. You may think she has no talent. But whether you like it or not, Madonna is still plenty relevant.

That being said, I don’t think there’s any connection between this event and her new leaked track. And I can’t wait for the album.

  4. Oh ghod no. I mean, I like LOVE Madonna and stuff, but this will totally, absolutely suck if Apple pulls out Madonna instead of the Beatles. Maybe it’s best we found out today, rather than experiencing the let-down tomorrow with no warning.

MW: radio. As in, people will trash their iP* products in rage and start listening to the radio again.

  5. Hey guys, you do know that Madonna owns a record label, right? The first band she signed was Green Day. Now, what if the big news was El Jobso signing Madonna’s label to an iTunes exclusive? Buy her bands’ music as exclusive DRM free tracks through the iTMS, with the artists getting EVERYTHING they deserve and cutting out the middle men.

Now that would be the thermonuclear warhead that would indeed “Let the Beat Go On”.

  6. If there are supposed to be new iPod announcements tomorrow, what do you make of the current education promotion – free iPod with purchase of a Mac until September 16? Either 1) the new iPods announced tomorrow are not available immediately or 2) they will continue to offer previous generation iPods in the education store or 3) they will change to rebate form to add the new iPods tomorrow. Anyone have any guesses?

Or maybe there are no new iPods and iTunes will have exclusive Madonna videos and free concert tickets with purchase of her new album.
