Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has admitted to being caught speeding in his Toyota Prius. Woz was ticketd by CHiPs for going 104 mph on California’s Interstate 5.
“All right Al Gore III, you’re still the tops when it comes to speeding in a Prius – but not by much. Steve Wozniak is right behind you,” Gary Richards reports for The Mercury News.
“‘I pleaded guilty, with an explanation,’ Wozniak said in one of several e-mails exchanged the past few days. ‘I said that I was really scientific, and in the last year had been in Athens, Moscow, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich (twice), Zurich, Canada (three times), Columbia, Singapore, Japan, London, etc., and had gotten used to kilometer speeds.’ The judge smiled. But he didn’t buy it. The fine was about $700,” Richards reports.
Woz “owns Hummers and hybrids. No, green-only, Birkenstock-loving guy,” Richards reports.
“Wozniak says he is sorry and that he has reformed his driving habits,” Richards reports. “‘Since then, as I told the judge, I’d driven to L.A. a few times, to San Diego and to Las Vegas, all at the speed limit,’ said Wozniak, who has owned eight of the Toyota hybrids.”

In Finland, everyone is fined according work days per year. So, if you are a multi millionaire, the fine is astronomically higher than if you are a bricklayer, becasue the fine may be for instance 3 work days, no matter who you are.
Big shot a Nokia who makes big money paid a 100,000 fine. An unemployed person only pays a nominal amount, but of course it hurts, too.
Not wishing to spoil Woz’s carefully crafted defence, but here in the UK we still use MPH as the dominant scale on speedometers so including London on his list probably wasn’t that smart.

When I was visiting Canada, I noticed they use a lot of Prius as taxi. I was thinking to myself if the celebrities in California saw this, that would totally ruin their image of being “green” and hip! LOL! Woz does not have too much brain left! Let him be, he does not deserve that much attention. =(

Yes, I’ve received what crunch has pulled out of wrecks and it’s devastating.
However, on a lighter note, I didn’t even know a Prius could go that fast! Woz must have hacked the operating system to let him run the gasoline and electric motors at the same time!
