Skype comes to Apple iPhone

SHAPE Services has announced the availability of IM+ for Skype for iPhone, the Safari web application for accessing Skype ecosystem from the mobile environment. The application is designed especially for iPhone’s touch screen and complements the design and interface of Apple’s masterpiece. For a limited time IM+ for Skype iPhone version is being offered free of charge to all iPhone users.

Now iPhone owners can log onto http://skypeforiphone.com using iPhone’s Safari web browser and talk with their Skype contacts or call any landlines and mobiles in a cost-efficient way. “Noticing the public interest for Skype on iPhone, we decided to use our mobile IM and mobile Skype experience and develop an application for them; this has also been a move towards our IM+ for Skype platform coverage. It is truly easy and convenient to access and use. We are looking forward to hearing some feedback from iPhone users”, said Igor Berezovsky, the company’s CEO, in the press release. “No tweaks are necessary.”

IM+ for Skype is the fully mobile application that uses SkypeOut credits for voice communication ensuring cost-effective calls to any number around the globe. For users of Skype Unlimited and Skype Pro plans IM+ enables almost free calling from the mobile device to any PC with Skype or any landline/mobile number.

IM+ for Skype works in any network and doesn’t require WiFi.

I KNOW!!! I mean, why in the world do people keep talking about hang gliders, or bulldozers? And who cares about football, or Barry Bonds? I’m not personally interested in these things, so why do people waste time talking about them???

  2. It’s not a phone. It’s a multi-function device. If you only need/want a phone, a smallish iPod, a calculator, a video player, a digital photo library device, get one. If you want something that does all these, relatively well, consider an iPhone.

  3. You said, “STILL not enough to get me to spend hundreds of dollars on a phone that does so much more than I need a phone to do. I can understand the lust and I can understand that certain people need such devices … just, not me.”

I can understand and agree. My cell phone does not even have a camera and I do not want it to. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

. . . . But, . . . that does not mean that I am not trying as hard as I can to come up with “reasons” why I “must” have an iPhone so that I can “justify” getting one. LOL

Actually, I figure if I can change jobs so that my new job requires me to fly around the country, then I will need maps of all those new cities that I will visit, . . .. so . . . . iPhone would be a perfect solution vs carrying tons of maps. . . . . Right?? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

MDN word “economic” as in I need a good economic sounding reason why I need an iPhone !!

  4. Possibly a stupid question here, hope someone can answer it.

For those of us who are on non AT&T areas; could this mean that somehow I could use a Skype connection as a work around?

That probably shows how little in know about Skype but………..?

  5. You have your right to post your opinion, of course. But please stop being so stuck up pasting your damn “voice of GLWhoreton” whatever URL link to try and get google ratings. It’s really annoying. If we all started to do that, this place would be a mess. We all show restraint in this regard; won’t you please?

  6. I want the iPhone to be successful since I have a lot of money invested in AAPL.

BUT, I don’t own an iphone and don’t even want one so please stop the iphone news UNLESS it pertains directly to how much money I am making in my AAPL stock!

  7. “STILL not enough to get me to spend hundreds of dollars on a phone that does so much more than I need a phone to do.”

That would be the perfect example of a comment that stands in diametrical opposition to itself. “Not enough=much more.”

If you want to increase your lousy pagerank, put the link in “name” part of the post. Doesn’t MDN have enough damn ads as it is?
