Apple posts free 30-day iWork ‘08 trial version for download

Apple has released iWork ’08 Trial for immediate download. Now anyone with a suitable Mac can try the new iWork ’08 for free for 30-days.

iWork ’08 requires Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later, a Macintosh computer with a 500 MHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5 or Intel processor, 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended), 32MB of video RAM, QuickTime 7.2 or later and 1GB of available disk space. iLife ’08 is recommended.

The trial provides full functionality for 30 days. After the 30-day trial period, you can open iWork documents, but you can’t save, print, or export.

The iWork ’08 Trial is the complete productivity suite for Mac users, whether you’re creating a letter, brochure, loan calculation, party budget, or presentation. The iWork ’08 Trial includes:

• Numbers—powerful spreadsheets made easy
• Pages—word processing with a sense of style
• Keynote—cinema-quality presentations for everyone

Apple on Tuesday introduced iWork ’08, a significant upgrade to Apple’s productivity software suite featuring new versions of Pages and Keynote word processing and presentation applications, and introducing an innovative new spreadsheet application called “Numbers.” Numbers introduces the concept of intelligent tables on a flexible canvas, a new approach that makes it easy to organize information, create calculations, analyze results and make spreadsheets look as great as they work. Pages ’08 now features distinct modes for streamlined word processing and flexible page layout, a new contextual format bar and change tracking, and Keynote ’08 now includes text effects, transitions and themes that help users easily compose spectacular presentations, and Smart Builds with easy-to-set-up A-to-B animations that make impressive animations easy for anyone to create.

iWork ’08 is now available through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of US$79. A 30-day iWork ’08 trial is available on new hardware and with copies of iLife ’08 sold at retail. After 30 days, the trial becomes an iWork ’08 player.

  1. Microsoft software being rubbish aside, I think that there should be a licensing procedure which will only allow people to use computers if they know what they’re doing. We could clear the internet out of a lot of the crap and I wouldn’t get morons asking me how to zoom in on google maps.

  2. @ M.X.N.T.4.1

Microsoft gets away with publishing crap because of attitudes like yours that allow them to blame the user. The fact is that if software is difficult to use, and most MS software is, then even the easy parts are going to be a problem for some people because they’re overwhelmed by the crap they have to deal with just to use the computer.

  3. I was thinking of buying it, so this is a way to check it out without wasting any cashola. I want to see if the new version of Pages is any better than the first, which was clunky and incredibly slow on my old PowerBook G4. So, if it still sucks, I’ll stick with AppleWorks until it finally breaks for good.

Jom of Davao: I don’t think it runs on G4 Macs.

  4. So, what will the database software be named? I would assume that Apple will release one, but maybe not.

I was thinking “Data”, but that’s too “Star Trek”.

Maybe “Appcess” – no, too MF, uh, M$.

    How about “Info”?

Or, since it would complete the productivity suite and render M$ Office useless to most people, try “F.U.M.S.”. Yeah, I like it.

By the way, that stands for “Fully Utilized Management System for data.” What did you think it was???

  5. Hey Combitron, how does Tiger run on your classic iMac? I’ve got a couple (one 400 and one 700 MHz) running Panther, but I worried that Tiger’s Dashboard/Widgets and Spotlight might overwhelm them. They’re home machines so they’re not running much but iTunes, web browsers, older versions of Office and Adobe products, etc.

  6. I downloaded the trial as soon as it became available. While it was downloading I clicked back to my browser window and hit the Buy Now button. While I was waiting for the download I was reading over my on-line order confirmation… and I mistakenly had ordered iLife 08! I called Apple right away and asked them to change my order to iWork, but they said they couldn’t do that since it had already gone to shipping. (Man that was fast!) But what they COULD do, was send me a FREE copy of iWork, and told me to just keep the iLife – don’t bother sending it back, it would be too much trouble for me.

I don’t know of any other company on the planet that would do that.

If I were you I wouldn’t try this at home… I probably just got a very generous customer service guy. I don’t think it’s company policy.

MW:great. As in “Ain’t Apple great?”

  7. I have a MBP with a C2D processor, and iWork ’08 works just fine. As does every other app…

    What’s everyone complaining about?
