Since very early this morning, our web host has been battling a denial-of-service (DoS) attack of “extreme size.”
Our site is not a target of this DoS. It seems to have been targeted at two unrelated client sites that cover the same topic (nothing to do with Apple).
There is no problem with our dedicated server performance (for once: we do need and are working on more resources as evidenced recently). We’re just caught up in the issue along with every other site sharing the same web host.
Our web host has called in extra assistance to pour through information gathered and to keep ahead of any recurrence of the DoS today. Performance should improve sporadically throughout the day.
Please keep in mind that in order to post new articles, we need access to the server, too. At times, it’s almost as frustrating as Windows. We’re doing our best to try to get through to the server to post new articles.
Thank you for your patience.
Some 15 year old boy out there with too much time on his hands… at least summer break is almost over…
I’ve also been battling Rodents Of Unusual Size.
Inconceivable!!!
It’s probably “John Wayne” doing his schtick.

It’s of course all Microsoft’s fault for their lousy software that allows the DoS by WinBotnets.
Since the host MDN uses is on Linux, makes me think the bad guys don’t like Linux.
Just speculating….
Thanks for keeping us apprised of the situation. I’m just glad to know the problem is not completely with my internet connection. Keep up the good work guys.

I just finished the last Harry Potter. When MDN said doing battle I pictured guys sending jinxes and curses through an DSL line.
Juat my $0.02
INCONCEIVABLE
Out of curiosity, who else is hosted on this server? Are they political blogs? Tech sites?
Buy some rack space and host yourself on an XServe – it’s really that simple.
Word is…
…someone has created a botherd of compromised iPhones and is DoS-ing MDN’s host server.
AT&T is laughing all the way to the bank in usage fee’s.
Apple gets their cut, everyone is happy.
Cheerio mates.
It was me, and I never take hostages. Once you do then no on takes you seriously then it’s just work, work, work all the day.
PS. C1, I’m looking for a replacement. Interested?
Mmmm….Cheerios.
SERVER OS IS????
I hope MDN’s web host is using Bonetti’s Defense, considering the rocky terrain.
