Microsoft Watch: Apple iPhone is ‘lifechanging, Microsofties and their partners should take notes’

“Two weeks, I bought into the hype. How would I describe Apple’s mobile? Life changing,” Joe Wilcox writes for eWeek’s Microsoft Watch.

“Before reading any further, Microsofties and their partners should take out paper and a pen. Apple has done so much right with the iPhone—based on my experience, anyway— that they should take notes,” Wilcox writes.

MacDailyNews Take: Microsoft never fails to crib from Apple, it’s just that they seem to be terrible note-takers as so much gets lost in translation (see Zune) and/or they rightly fear litigation, so they muck it all up (see Windows’ upside-down and backwards Mac UI) and/or they just don’t care about getting the details right (see any Microsoft product). Unfortunately for Microsoft and their so-called “partners,” iPhone comes with 200+ patents that Apple plans to vigorously defend.

Wilcox continues, “Apple has a real knack for making great user interfaces. The phone’s UI is outstanding, but it’s the synchronization that makes for a spectacular content experience… Microsoft just doesn’t get the importance of synchronization, of software making the setup and continuous use of devices easier.”

“By contrast, Apple does synch right, which makes the iPhone a highly useful data device. I’ve used many smart phones, but the iPhone is the first one that I’ve really used,” Wilcox writes.

“In another smart approach to user interface design, Apple solved the Web site access problem in the client… The Web is even more accessible now,” Wilcox writes. “…Battery life definitely meets or exceeds what Apple states: eight hours of talk time and more than 10 days of standby time.”

Wilcox writes, “I never really liked my cell phone before now. But I love my iPhone. It’s a real joy to use; using the features makes me laugh. All technology products should be this useful and fun.”

  1. Still loving mine!

(and, incidentally, typing this on it. The WAN access went down at the office, so I’m the only one online.)

  2. I’m writing this posting from my iPhone and after two weeks, I’m still amazed with what it can do! I love it and it was worth waiting 2-1/2 hours in line to get the 8-gig version.

Luckily, I don’t have any major problems with it, such as the battery charging status icon or frequent crashes.

    iPhone rocks!

  3. What the hell is wrong with this guy?

Let me make this simple for you MAC lemmings because these moronic reviewers haven’t figured it out: The iPhone sucks because it doesn’t run Windows Mobile. That’s it. End of story. Real smartphones that work in the real world run real operating systems. And it doesn’t support Flash or points to purchase content.

Another thoughtless review of what is really a third-rate Zune wannabe. I know because I’ve seen the commercials. I can’t believe how oblivious to the truth these reviewers are.

    Your potential. Our passion.™

  4. “Don’t worry, they won’t let little things like facts stop them – no doubt this gentleman is an Apple stooge / had a specially made iphone supplied (with functioning speaker) etc…”

too bad Microsoft doesn’t have to supply “specially made” versions of their product to reviewers and consumers for people to realize they just plain suck ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue laugh” style=”border:0;” />

So true and such a delight to read.

Even my Apple/Mac-hating significant other played with the iPhone in the store on June 29 for no more than four minutes, looked up at me and said “Get two.”

He LOVES his iPhone and has since set up a user account on my G5. He still pokes fun at Apple and the Mac OS out of habit, but he LOVES using the Mac now. Matter of fact, he hasn’t booted up his Gateway laptop in about two weeks.

  6. ALERT:

Trollbearer, Truthbearer, ZuneTang, SELLSELLSELL, Sputnik, and StockBoy are all the same malformed pockmarked miscreant living in his stepmother’s basement who advised us to dump AAPL last August at $50 and short the bejeebers out of it.

    How astute, how astute.

Feel free to spit, defecate, and ejaculate upon their supposed expertise and financial acumen, ladies and gentlemen. They’re still trying to figure out how to buy their next case of Lone Star beer as they watch “Ballmer Does Baltimore” on their Dell Inspirons.

Keep slathering on that zit cream, boys! Your complexion has to clear up sometime!

  7. Mr. Wilcox, I to have a deep love of the iPhone.

At the same time I still enjoy pretending to be a complete brainless ass turd which explains the comment I made above, just remember to ignore those types of posts from me and know I’ll keep doing them as my therapist encourages me to do so.

And yes, I’m behind the Hide A Pod

Alright, I’m not but I wish I was!

    Long live Steve and Apple!

  8. I agree. Having come from a Treo 650 to an iPhone, I’ll say that I use the iPhone a lot more. I can finally check my email on it. I can actually USE the web. My iCal syncs with it. Contacts sync. I can have Music on it, and videos.

Missing are some video recording functions, and the camera kinda sucks. It would be great to be able to do voice memos. And a PDF doc viewer would be great for books and stuff.

I’m sure all those will be coming shortly for it.

  9. Just got out of a meeting and all I had was my iPhone and the managers had their Crackberrys’, laptops and pad and paper with them and they were simply in awe as I was typing out my to do tasks, meeting minutes, recalling some email and checked the intranet/extranet/internet and did a quick conference call. Their jaws just dropped.
