RUMOR: Apple to release Yellow Submarine iPod preloaded with full Beatles catalog

“A limited-edition Yellow Submarine iPod, with every single Beatles album preloaded onto it? Oh yes,” Stuart Dredge reports for Tech Digest.

“According to music industry consultancy Music Ally, the Yellow Submarine iPod may be back on Apple’s roadmap, now that the iPhone launch is out of the way,” Dredge reports.

“It’d be launched to tie-in with Beatles tracks finally going on sale on Apple’s iTunes Store, possibly as a one-month exclusive,” Dredge reports.

  1. If the touch screen iPod is coming in August, will the Beatles iPod be the old style or the new style. I love the Beatles but I don’t think they are the massive draw they used to be. I would figure they would not sell that many of the yellow old iPods but if it’s on the new touch screen and it includes a yellow screen image of the Beatles, that may do well.

  2. I think the Beatles would sell well on iTunes regardless of how they’ve been available so far. “Dark Side of The Moon” sold well when EMI went DRM-free, so why not the Beatles?

I have no idea what the people involved with this are thinking, really. George Harrison’s widow saying that it won’t be released any time soon because “you have to prepare the liner notes and find the right photos”. So dumb.

  3. After the rumors of the new iPod with a touch screen, why would they release a yellow one in the “old” form factor??? I would love a Beatles iPod. I am a 44 year old who became a big Beatles fan in high school. I have been putting off the purchase of an iPod until the much rumored “touch screen, wi-fi” version comes out. Maybe very soon…..

  4. “Who cares????? Liberal, commie, tree-huggers.”

You bring up a good point. They should instead focus on releasing the cherished archives of all those conservative, capitalist greatest pop stars ever.

    Oh wait…

  5. That’s a horrible, made-up rumor. How did you get music that was bundled with a U2 iPod? An iPod needs to be formatted and setup via iTunes, so obviously the music will not be pre-loaded. It will be redeamable like U2. As far as a yellow iPod…..lol

  6. You guys crack me up. The Beatles’ music will be around long after most of today’s “stars” are forgotten footnotes. Oh yeah, and they’ve sold a few records, CDs, etc, been covered a few zillion times, and have made so much money it’s insane.
