Apple: Apple Stores to stay open until midnight Friday; limit two iPhones per person

Apple’s iPhone will go on sale this Friday, June 29 at 6:00pm local time at Apple retail stores nationwide. All 164 Apple retail stores in the US will stay open until midnight, and customers can purchase up to two iPhones on a first come, first served basis. Beginning Saturday morning, iPhone customers can learn how to get the most out of the iPhone with free, in-depth workshops offered throughout the day at all Apple retail stores. Every Apple retail store will offer support for iPhone at the Genius Bar and personal training through Apple’s new One to One program.

“Apple retail stores were created for this moment — to let customers touch and experience a revolutionary new product,” said Ron Johnson, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail. “With our legendary Genius Bar support, free workshops and our One to One personal training, we’re here to help customers get the most from their new iPhone.”

iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a revolutionary multi-touch display and pioneering new software that allows users to control iPhone with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers. iPhone combines three products into one small and lightweight handheld device-a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and the Internet in your pocket with best-ever applications on a mobile phone for email, web browsing and maps. iPhone ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, which completely redefines what users can do on their mobile phones.

iPhone goes on sale in the US on June 29, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. local time through Apple’s retail stores and AT&T’s select retail stores. Apple’s online store will be taking orders for iPhone beginning at 6:00 p.m. PDT. iPhone will be available in a 4GB model for US$499 and an 8GB model for $599, and will work with either Mac or PC. Beginning June 30 and continuing through the summer, Apple Stores in the US will open early at 9:00 a.m. for iPhone sales.

    So, AT&T stores are limiting 1 iPhone per customer, but Apple Stores are allowing 2 per customer? I call favoritism. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

    I had a nine-day week once. I was driving in Georgia at midnight on Sunday, so it became Monday. Then I crossed the state line into Alabama, and because I crossed a time-zone line, it was Sunday again. Then it was midnight again, and it became Monday again. So my week was Sunday Monday Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday.

    I wonder if there are two Apple stores within reasonable distance of each other, separated by a time-zone line. If there is, there are some lucky people who have seven hours in which to buy an iPhone.

  3. It might not be favouritism, Apple may just be happier to only sell machines to half the individual people that a similarly stocked AT&T store is.

    AT&T are actually getting a pretty sweet deal out of this. The phones are gonna sell themselves. Their staff aren’t having to activate anything so basically they’ve just got to collect the money.

    Your post is a bit bitter. You should give Apple a break; they’ve been opening their stores very aggressively. The stores are extremely successful for a reason: they carefully researched before planting them where they did. I’m sure a store is coming your way soon (unless you are in really, really rural areas; than again, Apple claims no continental American is farther than 50 miles from a store).

    An analyst (Gene Munster, Piper Jaffray) claims Apple will have 1 million phones ready for the first weekend. With online activation, pushing them through the 2000 stores (between AT&T and Apple) should be possible – 500 devices in about 25-30 hours per store – 20 devices per hour. It is a bit fast (one every three minutes; for stores with only one register, it means they should be selling iPhone and nothing else and ring them up non-stop. Obviously, since 3/min is an average, multi-register stores could be able to push more than that. However, it would also mean that they would need up to 500 people to line up in front of EVERY AT&T store (again, average). Some of those stores are in areas where there aren’t 500 people interested in iPhone. For those, the 5th Ave store and such will have to pick up some slack.

    A Forbes article said today that this launch will be the biggest in history – bigger than 1964 launch of Ford Mustang.

    It’s good to be an Apple fan these days…
