Associated Press writer wants to remind Apple of their so-called ‘misses’

“When a Roman general returned from a successful campaign and was rewarded with a triumphal parade through the city, a slave stood behind him on his chariot to whisper the words ‘Memento mori’ in his ear,” Peter Svensson writes for The Associated Press.

“The Latin phrase means ‘remember that you are mortal,’ and was intended to keep the general’s pride manageable. With the launch of the tremendously hyped iPhone soon upon us, it may be worth reminding Apple Inc. and the buying public that not every product the company has put out has been as successful as say, Julius Caesar’s conquest of France,” Svensson writes. “So here’s a memento mori for Apple, listing some of its greatest misses…”

To save you the click: Svensson covers: Newton, G4 Cube, eWorld, one-button mouse, and, believe it or not, iMac.

How sad of an SOB do you have to be to write an article like this? Sheesh. Plus, many of Mr. Rain-On-Your-Parade’s list of so-called “misses” contains products that simply prove Apple to be consistently ahead of the times, constantly pushing forward; skating to where the puck is going to be, not to where it’s been, to quote Jobs quoting Gretzky.

At or near the top of a rather prodigious list of AP orifices: Peter Svensson.

  1. the iMac wasnt a miss… i recently showed a PC guy an iMac 20 inch running Mac OS X tiger, i asked him if he has a mac “a what?”, “well then im guessing you have this” restarted, boot to windows, then parralel back to Mac OS X, he bought one a week later lol

  2. This asshat has been seeing one too many ‘Patton’ movies and sounding off like a clueless parrot. He is a supreme dumbass.

Why are so many so-called jounalists getting quoted, or even getting paid for this shit.

  3. As someone who has a G4 Cube and a Newton, let me tell you these products were not failures, they were just ahead of their time. The Cube in particular is still one of the best desktop computers Apple ever produced and I use it to this day.

  4. To all the journalist, ‘Memento mori’.

You do make many, many errors in your articles and should be less God like when you put articles in the wild.

Let not our egos become reaility….

Oh guys, try this— Start your own company and show us how well you could do in the same environment. Yak…. but show us!!!

  5. Come on people. He’s just scratched the surface of Apples Computers misses. Some that he omitted:

    1. The Wheel
    2. Electricity
    3. The Pinto Wagon
    4. Windows 3.1
    5. Paris Hilton

Jeesh, you’d think Apples Computer would be out of business by now. If it weren’t for all the cultish lemmings, they would be!

  6. The Newton and eWorld were both before Jobs returned to Apple. The Cube has been his their only miss since. To mention the iMac as a miss is just pure ignorance. The iMac almost singlehandedly saved Apple in the period from 1998-2001.

  7. It’s a shame that the cube was deemed a “failure”, because that was one incredible computer. The mistake was the price for a headless machine…noone was ready for the price. I wish they would resurrect it. Way ahead of its time. Try to tell anyone who bought and used a Newton that it was a “failure”. You’ll get shot.
It started the whole ball of wax for everything mobile today. The iPhone is the Newton resurrected.

  8. Mac N Cheese is right about the Cube. There is a common misconception that it was a bad product and that’s just not true. As an owner of one, it’s one of my favorite Macs ever. It just didn’t sell well as it was poorly positioned in the market.

However, the media would never let facts get in the way of a good mudslinging.

  9. He goes on to say that the iMac wasn’t a miss “But when was the last time you were excited about an iMac?” Actually, I was pretty excited at each new generation! And as I recall, so were lots of other folks. And he neglected to mention the other misses under Jobs watch like the web site protection service and the web site rating service. But quite frankly, if you didn’t do things that didn’t work on occasion, you wouldn’t be an innovator. You would be playing is safe and be a follower, not a leader.

  10. Hey, Svensson, bite me!!!

Wanna come over to my house and work on my Cube – nearly 7 years old and works flawlessly.

Where is your 7-year old PC, Svensson???

Tired of people bashing the Cube – a perfectly good computer.

  11. This guy is a moron. Newton and eWorld weren’t Steve’s ideas. I am still not convinced a multibutton mouse is better. The Cube just happens to be the most beautiful computer ever designed. And the PC world has yet to create anything close to any of the versions of the iMac, and the next one is rumored to be absolutely stunning.

Let’s try another list: Apple II. Macintosh. Laserwriter (desktop publishing). Powerbook. iMac. iBook. iPod. iTunes. Final Cut Pro. MacBook (albeit, stupid name). Every single one of these products redefined their categories, and every single one created huge profits for Apple — which, after all, is one of the primary goals of a corporation.

I’ll say it again: This guy is a moron.
