CNET reviews Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz: Excellent, Editor’s Choice

“While the 2006 debut of Apple’s MacBook line was flat-out revolutionary–introducing Intel’s Core 2 Duo CPUs and a 13.3-inch wide-screen display along with Apple’s iSight camera, Front Row remote, and MagSafe power adapter–the May 2007 upgrade is more evolutionary. The overall design remains unchanged, as Apple bumped up the top processor speed to 2.16GHz and the default memory to 1GB for all three configurations while also adding larger hard drives. Eagerly awaited upgrades, such as Intel’s new Centrino Duo platform, LED-backlit displays, or solid-state hard drives are still MIA, but more power for the same price is always welcome,” Dan Ackerman writes for CNET Reviews.

CNET Reviews gives the Apple MacBook (Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive, black) an “Excellent” rating, 8.2 out of 10.

  1. Frisby,

I’m with you.. same system but the faster hard drive for audio recording and music production… but I love it!!! Going to upgrade to the Pro model soon I think… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  2. There are others in the field, but they aren’t playing the same game.

No other company in the world can bundle a software bundle that Apple has already built for their other devices.

Apple software cost = very low. Competitors would have to buy.
Apple Integration = Excellent. Competitors = None.
Price point = Low. Full blown computer for 1/2 price. What competitor?
Apple Keyboard: It will prove itself out, but I think most people will quickly divorce the Blackberry keyboard. BB and Palm suck doing letter and number combos.
It takes me 6 keystrokes on a Palm to look up a number.
Apple will take 2. that’s the competitive difference. Simplicity.

Ok now we are done talking about competition.

  3. @Comparison: display LCD with LED vs NO LED

Wish I could read Italian … even so, judging by those pix the colour temperature of the LEDS screens seems to have been pushed up on the Kelvin scale quite a lot, as it looks like the 6500K or CIE XYZ color space D65 has been increased, but I doubt it, more likely a bad colour balance on the initial set up.
The screens do seem to have a bit of punch tho.

  4. Wooo…. That’s some bright white in the LED lit MBP.

    I’ma get me a one of those shiny led-thingys, pa… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

And meanwhile, where in the hell is that new ultraportable? or new MacBook or iMac?

  5. I’m sitting here at the car dealership on my one year old Macbook. Not a complaint in the world…maybe a little more drive space. Awesome device and it turns the heads of all the 2 inch thick PC laptop sheep nearby.

  6. Got a 15″ MacBook Pro 2.4 Ghz with Matte Screen yesterday.

    Best choice IMMO.

MacBooks glossy screens look like cheap crappie machines glossed up to sell. They hurt the eyes just looking at them.

On the other hand, the matte screen MacBook Pro’s look like professional machines and catch people’s eyes. Plus with the 256 of video RAM, it can play 3D games pretty well.
