McCain would ask Microsoft CEO Ballmer to serve on cabinet regarding tech issues

“Republican presidential hopeful John McCain yesterday attended a technology conference and came out against Net Neutrality,” Arlen Parsa blogs for The Daily Background.

“The 70 year old presidential hopeful also said that he would ask Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to serve on his cabinet to deal with technology issues if elected. He did not however say what position Ballmer might be hired in, but did joke that he might consider him for a diplomatic position, such as ambassador to China,” Parsa reports.

“Ballmer is not known in the tech industry for his diplomatic prowess: he once threw a chair across his office saying he would ‘fucking kill Google’ after learning that a prized employee had defected to the search giant,” Parsa reports.

Asking Steve Ballmer to take a cabinet seat to deal with technology issues would be like asking Rob Glaser to join the board of Weight Watchers.

  1. For the “I’m kinda’, like, undecided if I, like, could support McCain” crowd, this just about oughta sorta do it, one way or the other.

Oh well, Apple has Gore; McCain has Ballmer.

Everyone has some kind of cross to bear, I guess.

  2. Not that McCain would have had my vote anyway, but if he somehow did, he would have just lost it, on two counts.

Steve Jobs for tech issues cabinet member! Or, Kermit the Frog! ANYONE other than Ballmer, please!

  3. He also plans on naming that illegal immigrant drug dealerthat received immunity for testifying against border guards and is sewing the Government for $5 Million as ‘Border Control Czar”

He is also negotiating with Howard Stern and Larry Flint to become the new FCC president.

  4. Considering that I myself was tortured, I am against the use of coercive torture of enemy combatant. That said, I do support using it. Kind of. And I’m completely against it. Though I stand by the president in supporting the use of torture. But not really.

  5. Try selecting an engineer for a technical advisor NOT a salesman.

There are a large number of engineering publications that deal specifically with technical issues for example, “Machine Design” and “Design Fax”. Each is staffed with competent engineers that research and write articles on a multitude of technically-related fields.

  6. This is a clever ploy by Billyboy to get rid of Ballmer. The man owns too many shares in MS to be fired for bad performance.
Perhaps Billy is giving a cool billion to McCain’s campaign to take Ballmer off his hands. And he would recoup that money by the jump of MS shares after Ballmer’s exit.
    Just my imagination.

Oh yes, Ballmer is going to throw the book at those Iranians! Or perhaps he will develop IBCs (intercontinental ballistic chairs)?

  7. Oh boy! McCain the homicidal nutjob. We can nuke Iran and technology in the same administration.

Anybody who would vote for McCain… oh wait, that’s the 50 millions idiots who voted for 8 years of our present situation.

    Vote green or die.

  8. Another reason to vote for Romney: He thinks different. Under the Romney administration in MA they adopted the Open Document format saving the company millions in software licenses. Brilliant! Imagine the money saved if the federal government followed suit. the annual savings might be able to pay for a day in Iraq.

  9. Boy, Ballmer’s vision on technology for our country would really give us a huge lift. I think we all should invest in Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Sure, Speed Stick, Freelance Dancing. Nair, plastic non-breakable chairs, and the upstart Tiny Combover Combs.
