RUMOR: Apple MacBook Pro, MacBook, Mac mini updates coming sooner than expected

Apple Store“Updates to Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, expected to arrive within the next month, now appear ready to be unveiled sooner rather than later, sources report. An announcement could come as early as Tuesday, sources say, although both models may not be introduced in tandem,” Think Secret reports.

“While a MacBook Pro update based on Intel’s recently delivered Santa Rosa chipset has been anticipated since Intel first disclosed shipping details of the faster platform, word of a pending MacBook update has only emerged recently,” Think Secret reports. “Sources report MacBook supplies are virtually nil at Apple’s major distributors, and Apple is no longer shipping quantities of its low-end laptops to Apple retailers, two traditionally strong signs of a pending update.”

“Details of the MacBook update are less known, although there is a strong possibility that the laptop will also take advantage of Santa Rosa… [and the] faster Intel GMA 3000 graphics processor,” Think Secret reports.

Think Secret reports, “An update is to Apple’s Mac mini, which is based on similar components as the MacBook, is also expected in the near future.”

Ok, I haven’t expected that. My MBP has just been shipped today. The same day, not 6-7 business days as Apple originally stated and they’ve send it via FedEx (two business days) not regular as I’ve chosen.

Ok, maybe that is usuall, but some surprise.

As for the discounts I mentioned. I saw “your price” field (it was red font) on refurbished Mac (Canada) site just an hour ago. When I visited later, the offer was gone. Hat is going on?

  2. And BTW, the “your price” was significantly discounted. MacBook C2D 1.86 white that is still there was for Cdn$949 instead of Cdn$1099. The refurbished Apple Cinema original price was something like 1,490 instead of 3,000 something. Don’t remember exactly, but the discounts were significant. If that was a real promotion, it was the shortest ever.

I don’t know, but I would assume there is a limited supply, and some people may have put items in their ‘cart’ yet haven’t bought them.

You might keep checking to see if these become available when their allotted purchase time is up and they haven’t paid.

  4. Oh, Apple won’t be releasing an updated Mac Mini anytime soon. I’ve not yet bought one … and we all know that Apple will hold out on upgrading the Mac Mini until AFTER I’ve bought mine. That’s why it’s taken this long … they’re waiting until I buy.

  5. Based on these rumours I get the feeling the Apple sub-notebook will cost more than the MacBook. The LED screen and NAND flash memory are new so they will add to the price.

Anyway, as soon as the new Intel graphics chip is used in a MacBook I am buying one.
