Microsoft today released Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.5 Update which “contains several improvements to enhance security and stability, including fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code. In addition, this update includes all the improvements released in all previous Office 2004 updates.”
Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.5 Update applies to: Office 2004 Standard Edition, Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition, Office 2004 Professional Edition, Word 2004, Excel 2004, PowerPoint 2004, Entourage 2004.
Requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 (Jaguar) or later.

There was a time that this might have seemed important.
After playing with the update to NeoOffice, I’m seriously considering trashing all of MS Office. There just doesn’t seem to be a reason to keep it any longer.
Well – another update to fix security issues from M$. Quelle surprise!
Soon now, I will be M$ free. Although it’s so annoying where I work (a major southern comprehensive university): the administrators insist on sending all memos and announcements as MS .doc’s. It’s incredibly irritating and just downright rude. You’d think they’d realize that they’re using the primary virus vector for their memos that are really just pure text! To paraphrase Mark Twain: “Sir, you’re a university administrator and an idiot! But I repeat myself.”
How do you get a job at a company who provides updates only every 4-5 years? Hurry up and get Office 2008 out the door while its still 2007!
Time for Microsoft to update their income stream from Mac users.
2004? What year do they think it is now? The Mac OS has moved on from those days. Just purchase Office for the PC and run it under parallels to avoid being hit by nasties if at all that is possible.
Installing ancient sodtware on the state-of-the-art OS is aking for it.
In any case I bet you it cost more than the PC version!
I am so so sick of every one of these Office updates saying the same stupid thing about “fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code.” Can’t they just tell us what is really in the update? Do they not have enough people to have someone write an actual fix list? Do they think somehow we won’t understand? Or are they really so bad that they just keep finding the stupid issue over and over? Perhaps they are just to lazy to write something so they just keep copy and pasting in the same description….

An interesting tidbit… I was updating a friends office products on his Macbook yesterday and had to do progressive updates… 11.3.3, 11.3.4 yadayada…
I was wondering “why doesn’t MS just do it like Apple and allow you to go to the most recent update?”
I needed to update my office suite on the mac at work and haven’t in awhile.
So here’s the funny part… I see this notice from MDN, dutifully click on the Microsoft Auto Update application on my macbook, and the app tells me that this update contains all of the previous updates for MS office.
I’m thinking “cool, I can update the office suite on the imac at work and don’t have to do all of the previous updates from MS.”
Wrong – click on the MS Autoupdate app on the iMac, and 11.3.3 comes up…
Lol… only from MS do we get updates that update what you just updated when if they wrote the update program correctly would eliminate 2 – 3 steps in the update process.
I just find it amazing that this company is still in business.

2004?!? I guess MS has enough money to give everyone of their employees a one to two year vacation, or al least thats how it seems. Here I thought Adobe was taking it’s time with a UB version.
gee… the last time i installed an office update, none of my programs would launch. one bounce, and they’d close. i had to call microsoft (who where amazingly helpful and courteous, incidentally). i think i’m gonna wait on this one…

I don’t even use MS office anymore myself. Openoffice (Neooffice) is free, cross platform, and compatible with MS office files. On top of that Openoffice does not have all the security issues that MS Office seems to have.

Yes, if you took this code and ran it on an operating system that is running as the super user by default (such as Microsoft Windows), then all of your computer’s memory could be overwritten. Or if you didn’t follow recommended procedures and ran OS X as the super user (which is NOT the default).
Note that operating systems that run as the super user by default are generally appropriate for internet use.

I am really getting tired of Microsoft implying that everybody else is as stupid/incompetent as they are.
And they’re doing this deliberately in a desperate attempt to lower everybody else to their level; high time the roof was blown off this choice piece of bovine solid waste.
The only reason for the multiple updates is that MS tries to show there is a problem with the MAC OS X … and there is not…
thats the reason why don’t give a fix list…they didn’t fix anything, they just wan’t to change the ‘perception’…
