RUMOR: New Apple iMacs coming at WWDC

Apple Store“Apple may be planning to introduce new iMacs at this year’s WWDC. Previous reports indicated that Apple was preparing a black iMac following the success of the black iPods. The new machines are said so be housed in a much slimmer form factor, be faster, with larger displays and be ready for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June,” LOOPRumors reports.

“An introduction of new iMacs would be a ‘one more thing’ surprise that is long overdue for the company’s all-in-one computer. The last time Apple updated the iMac was in September when it added a 24-inch model to its line,” LOOPRumors reports.

Dude, a mini is nowhere near an iMac in computing power, let alone a Mac Pro.

Minis suck in just about every aspects of their lives – I think a headless consumer machine might be a nice ticket.

Granted, I just bought an iMac in January, so I hate to see it be obsolete already, but still, a new offering from Cupertino might be nice

  2. Since Intel is going to introduce its Santa Rosa chip set next week, Apple should be ready to refresh all of its non Xeon based systems about the time of WWDC. So the rumor of new iMacs at WWDC is consistent with the availability of this “must have” technology.

  3. thread: agreed, it is about time for an iMac refresh, or even a total update.

non-thread: I’m with the guys who want to see in in-between headless Mac – between the Mac mini and the Mac Pro – that can be easily upgraded at home by a semi-capable user. Added RAM, HDs, etc. Starting at $1,000 to $1,500 and ending below the $2,000 mark (without extras). Lots of room, there. Single and dual bus models, room for a graphics card (and sound card?), open second drive bay, full range of USB/FW ports … LOTS of room in the market. With Mac mini and Mac Pro taken, just call it the Mac.

Are you talking about the First Day of Obsolescence Syndrome? I’m typing this on my (fairly new) iMac 24 and thinking the same thing. ;P My only real gripe, though, is the 3GB limit. Don’t think I’d pay extra for a black one, and a bigger model wouldn’t fit in my desk. Other than that it’s the most beautiful computer ever designed by man.
