Apple CEO Steve Jobs has made The TIME 100, a list of the “100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world.”
Lev Grossman writes for TIME, “Sure, Steve Jobs has been on this list before—in 2004 and 2005, to be specific—but somehow it’s never the same Jobs from one year to the next. He has been Jobs the visionary founder, notably at Apple and Pixar. He has done time as Jobs the exile and even as Jobs the failure. Now he has a new role: Jobs the mogul. Clearly he knows how to innovate from the bottom and from the outside. Can he do it from the top?”
Grossman writes, “Let’s look at the record. So far this year he has unveiled the iPhone, which has every other cell-phone maker scrambling to get a glimpse of Apple’s taillights, and Apple TV, a gutsy grab for the living-room media center. Leopard, a major update to Apple’s OS X operating system, is due in October. Meanwhile, Jobs sold his 100 millionth iPod this year, second-quarter Macintosh sales were up 36%, and Apple is showing remarkable financial vitality (and has weathered its stock-options dustup). So far, so cool.”

“TIME asked who you thought should be on the list of the 100 most influential people of the year. Over 200 candidates were given a rating of 1 to 100. And your #1 choice? Let it Rain! The Korean R&B phenom had almost half a million votes, over 100,000 more than runner-up Stephen Colbert.”
Steve Jobs ended up 11th with a 75 rating and 27,484 votes. Jonathan Ive was 30th with a 68 rating and 7862 votes. Bill Gates finished 35th.

Anyone see the brohaha made last night on the Fox news show “Hannity and Combs” how G.W. Bush did not make the list? Glad there is nothing else important going on in the world. (Seesh) One of the guest made the accurate point there is a difference between being “powerful” – which the U.S. President is – and being “influential” which argueably he is not. The thing that bothers me most about that show is that the hosts do not let the guests finish their replies.
After ten minutes, I had to turn it off. I was mainly watching the show because I was curious to see who made the list.

HANNITY, regardless of what you think of him, is exactly right. The question Time asked, was “who do you think is the most influential person in the world?”

@No Squirt for You – I agree it must have been a slow news day and was disappointed the news media felt this really a worthwhile story. I didn’t have much opportunity to watch TV last night, thus did not see CNN – didn’t know about their coverage.
@Thorin – I tend to be in the center as well. Some issues I lean towards the left, others towards the right. Neither “side” is always correct. I try to watch both Fox and CNN to better understand the various issues. I have more of problem with shows which do not respect the guests and viewers than anything else. And those types of shows are on both channels.

I’m with Thorin, I stopped watching H&C a while ago because they both interrupt their interview guests and both appear to be unable to listen to the other side and reason.

I like that viewpoint. That’s why I hate labels like liberal and conservative. Maybe that’s also why I liked the name of the consumer Mac introduced in February of ’93 between the II and the Quadra series.

BTW I used to upgrade Centris boards to Quadra boards and resell them back in the day. Replace the processor and solder on a new clock chip and a couple of resistors. The ROM automatically identified it as a Quadra.
I was voted President of my 4th grade class. This Time poll is not more meaningful. It was fun, though, hammering their web site with zero ratings for Bill Gates. I love that he came in after Jonathon Ive.

the code they used to vote was not checking the IP, you could click and click and click to vote without problem! That means that for that i never heard about a fucking goog that sings songs about 1000 fans only had to click 500 times to end up

Concerning the “most influential poll”
I don’t respect a poll that lets any one person vote more than once, as in this one’s case.
Also, when a teenage hockey player ranks higher than Steve Jobs for most influence world wide, it tells you a lot about the poll. And tells you a lot of Canadians (teenagers probably) had a lot of time on their hands to hit the refresh button and vote all day.
