Survey says: Apple iPhone ‘is going to be a monster’

Apple Store“Apple’s iPhone will be highly sought-after when it debuts in June, according to a new survey,” Patrick Seitz reports for Investor’s Business Daily.

“The combination mobile phone, Internet device and widescreen iPod media player has been the talk of the tech world since Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled it in January,” Seitz reports.

Seitz reports, “A survey of tech-savvy professionals by ChangeWave Research to be released Friday indicates that demand will be high for the iPhone. About one in 10 respondents (9%) say they are likely to buy the iPhone once it becomes available. Another 7% say they are likely to buy the iPhone as a gift for someone else. ‘That’s huge,’ said ChangeWave founder Tobin Smith. ‘This is going to be a monster.’

“The survey results indicate a much faster adoption curve than is typical for a consumer electronics product, Smith says. If the iPhone’s performance lives up to consumer expectations, sales should exceed Apple’s sales goals, he says,” Seitz reports.

“In the survey, ChangeWave polled nearly 3,500 people April 4-10. Respondents were members of the ChangeWave Alliance, a group of 10,000 business, technology and medical professionals who work on the frontline of technological change, the pollster says,” Seitz reports.

Seitz reports, “Among likely buyers, 79% say they would dump their existing wireless carrier and switch to AT&T to use the new iPhone, ChangeWave says.”

  1. A monster? Don’t make me laugh. Who did they survey? Pansy Mac babies? I’ll tell you this: a couple of monsters have already been unleashed and they go by the names Zune and Motorola Q.

Apple’s itty bitty sissy iPhone will be no match for the magnificent Zune and the awesome Motorola Q, and here’s why: the iPhone doesn’t run Microsoft Office and doesn’t have enough buttons. Have you seen all the buttons on a Q? Awesome! Don’t forget that thing runs Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile!

The WOW is very much now my friends.

  2. @pr

Why wait for the 2nd generation iPhone? Why not wait for the 3rd? How ’bout the 4th that’s coming? Dang, can you even IMAGINE what the 5th generation will look like?

As for me, I’m waiting for 10G iPhone. Your 3rd will look like a brick!

  3. No Squirt – I’m pretty sure that no company with that name currently exists. The company that once bore that name (not counting its breakup, re-emergence and the fact that it’s actually SBC) is now named AT&T Corporation. (The same goes for the companies formerly known as Radio Corporation of America, the Columbia Broadcasting System, and probably a host of others. I’m not sure about International Business Machines.)

  4. @pr,

I agree with Randian. The first generation iPhone will be much better than any other phone on the market, and that’s all you can ever hope for when buying. Sure, later models will be even better, but that’s always the case, and no reason to wait.

MDN Magic Word: wanted, as in: I’ve always wanted visual voicemail.

  5. @Zune Tang

If Microslop made toilets, they’d flush in reverse.
    WOW = Wailing Over Waste

I hope that is sufficently scatalogical, in keeping with the brown Zune. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  6. Hi Follower: Just a mediocre attempt at humor. Or humour, even. Speaking of anachronisms, it’s funny that people still say they’re dialing a phone number. I used to hate numbers with lots of nines and zeros.

(Kentucky Fried Chicken is now KFC.)
