Apple StoreThe Shiira Project has announced the release of latest version of their Mac OS X Web browser, Shiira 2.0.

Shiira is a web browser based on Web Kit and written in Cocoa. The goal of the Shiira Project is to create a browser that is better and more useful than Safari. All source code used in this software is publicly available.

  1. Back to Shiira … some problems noted in a matter of a few minutes.
    – can’t rename a bookmarks folder
    – can’t see the MW to post to MDN

On the Good Side, I like several of the options – and that they ARE “options”.

  2. So far, I like it…I’ll play around with it a bit more and see if any of the problems I’ve had with Firefox and Safari creep up in Shiira (for example, image-heavy blog pages load in Firefox with huge grey boxes, and I can’t play video links in Safari), but it’s got a very clean look — and I like being able to switch between Page View and regular tabs. Seems to work well on the Intel iMac — I’ll have to try it out on the MacBook.

The beauty of the Mac is that we actually have choices…

  3. I use Shiira 1.2 on my Mac OS X Panther Mac. It’s a great browser and runs better than the others (including Camino) on that older slower Mac. Since Apple never made the latest Safari compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 and lower, it’s a great alternative.

My #1 browser on my Mac with Tiger is Camino. But I’ll give Shiira 2.0 a try. I just downloaded it…
