Report: AT&T Wireless says Apple iPhone release date June 11

Avril Lavigne“Ever since Steve Jobs’ keynote at the Macworld Expo in January, we’ve known that the iPhone is being released sometime in June. But we haven’t known exactly when,” Declan McCullagh blogs for CNET.

“Now Cingular [AT&T Wireless] is confirming that the release date will be June 11. A customer service manager at Cingular (we called 800-947-5096 and were transferred to sales) gave us that date late Thursday, but, alas, said he didn’t have any additional information beyond that,” McCullagh reports.

“That date is no coincidence. It’s the first day of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference,” McCullagh reports.

  1. A “customer service representative” told the CNET guy this and he believed it. What a moron. Maybe the date is June 11th, but I wouldn’t report it because someone at the other end of an 1-800 number told me so.

  2. i wonder if i fly to america buy an iPhone and come back here it will work with an ordinary sim card? anyone?
yes i know ill be in contract still, probably need a residencial address for the contract too i suppose.

  3. OK, calendar is marked with a big MAYBE.

    Nice pic of Avril.

I could have sworn I saw a photo of Hillary Duff as a brunette looking all grown the other day.

Did I type that out loud?…..

MW:hell, as in-ok, back to thinking of Hillary Swank…in the buff…that’s what I meant, anyhow.

  4. For anyone that has ever talked to a human at the other end of a Cingular customer service line, as I have for more hours than I care to count, I would say take this with a grain of salt.

I have had one annoying service/device issue with them since last June. Everytime I call one of those oh so knowledgeable “customer service” reps about the very same problem, reported exactly the same, I am given a different reason for it. Sometimes it is a nearby tower being worked on, othertimes, it is firmware issue, then hardware, then bad sim card, then they say it must be Motorola’s fault…who of course then blame Cingular. And the cycle continues.

Having been with T-Mobile, and Sprint previously, I’d have to say that Cingular, far and away, beats the competition as the absolute worst in customer service. And don’t get me started on their “MyCingular” website!

So far all you iPhone fanatics, of which I am one, this is a friendly warning. You may be wet with anticipation now, but beware, the service you about to sign a two year deal with will be worse than you could ever imagine.

Having said all that, I still can’t wait until June 11 or whenever!

  5. The phone bizness is fashion bizness. What is cool and in today is out in 3 months. I sure hope Apple has lots of other variations of the iPhone ready to bring out fast enough to meet the fickleness of the market.

  6. This is the most anticipated date since the Beatles came to America! Expect throngs of screaming fans outside the Apple Stores. Hundreds of police in riot gears are preparing for stampedes. Media coverages will rival O.J. Simpson trial verdict coverage. Oh, I’m so excited, I need coffee now!
