“Cingular Wireless, the mobile unit of AT&T Inc., has received about 1 million requests for information on Apple Inc.’s new iPhone, AT&T Chief Operating Officer Randall Stephenson said on Tuesday,” Reuters reports.
Reuters reports, “While the biggest U.S. wireless service is not taking advance orders for the phone, it set up a section on its Web site inviting visitors to leave their e-mail addresses to receive information about the phone when it is released.”

But when can I get one over here………
1 million down, 9 more millions to go.
But you can buy a Motorola for $99 and it does email, it does internet, it does voicemail. The iPhone is not a very good business machine because it doesn’t have a keyboard.
1 million inquiries, and 9 million waiting silently for June!!!
1 million inquiries and 99% from people that can´t afford it.
“But, Mom, everyone is getting an iPhone!!!!”
Retard–you are!
It does have a keyboard, it’s the future type typer.
I was one of those inquiries!!! I finally feel like somebody!!!
I’m a Driver,
I’m a Winner,
Things are gonna change,
I can feel it!!!
The only thing keeping me from buying an iPhone in June has nothing to do with the price…..it’s that I won’t do business with that sh*tty service known as AT&T/Cingular.
It is more than what Micro$oft has sold Zune players up till today.
Something like 970 000 more. This will drive Palmer and Gates grazy.
This is so sweet ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
I want my iPhone now! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”mad” style=”border:0;” />

Yo, my buddy ron! Take one of these….
(Jim – tiv passes ron a sarcasm interpretation pill)
Why wouldn’t they take pre-orders?
I truly hope you can buy an iPhone without signing up with the above mentioned craphole AT&T/Cingular. Even if it’s higher priced, I would at least consider it.
I hope it eventually does VoIP.
The number of people is just from their website. Now add in the folks inquiring about the iPhone at their retail locations, and 10x that with the people inquiring about the mobile devices at Apple Stores.
OK, English majors. “Retard” has quoted back to us Mr. Gates pronouncement on the iPhone, in a context that puts the lie to what Gates said. So… what is that figure of speech called? Satire? Irony? Satiric irony? Ironic satire? Paradox? Simple allusion?
Inquiries mean nothing. For all we know these are the same people who yapped about the movie “Snakes On a Plane” and then never went to see it once released. It’s a mistake to confuse buzz with the reality of actually buying one of these things. The latter is all that counts, and we just won’t know until June, will we?
OK. So it was Ballmer, not Gates.
One Million Inquiries, well at least ATT has got Napster on it’s side too just in case there isn’t any demand for the iPhone. These megalopolies kill me – ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />)
thay can’t do preorders because most like the price will be different!
No Squirt For You
They would be crazy to take preorders because of how much of a pain people can be when something they have order does not arrive exactly when they expected it. If they say June first and it is a week late ATT will be flooded with complains and acusations from unreasonable customers
Can someone please tell me how my large iPhone screen is NOT going to get terribly scratched?
It’s made of industrial diamonds.
I am sure there have been a significantly higher number inquiries. The 1+ million is people that have actually left an email address!
Do you leave your address every time you visit a website?? I sure don’t!
Case in point-I visited the site, did not leave an address …. I inquired but am not in the 1+ million count.
Tip of the iceberg!
TR
@ JB
It won’t be scratched because there will be a note in every iPhone box that will say,”Madly scrubbing the screen with a paper towel to generate a class action lawsuit will void your iPhone warranty”.
I am buying 2 as soon as they take pre-orders. I have access to about 100 or more mobile handsets (for free), but will pay out of my pocket to own the iphone.
Once a Monkey Boy, ALWAYS a Monkey Boy…
And that was a NERVOUS laugh btw…
