Apple UK Store leaks 8-core Mac Pros

MacDailyNews reader Tom F. provides the image from the online Apple UK store that clearly states “Mac Pro. Now quad-core or 8-core processing power.”

Justin Berka for Ars Techinica writes, “We’ve heard about Mac Pros moving to the quad-core “Clovertown” Xeons for some time now, with dates for the release ranging anywhere from late 2006 to late 2007. It now appears that the new Xeons might be arriving sooner rather than later, based on some descriptions on the U.K. Apple site.”

“Unless Apple has somehow managed to pack 4 of the current Xeon processors into that shiny metal tower, this seems like a pretty good indication that Apple is getting ready to take us to Clovertown,” Berka writes.

  1. > Uh oh, somebody just got fired!

I think it was intentional. Apple is getting more of that free publicity on the day before the product is officially released. At this point, it does no harm to know that Apple is going to release an 8-core Mac Pro.

My only question is if the 4-core model is still dual-dual or single-quad (using one of those Clovertowns).

The magic word is “eight.” How cool…

  2. Sorry guys, all of the people claiming to be me are clearly not, I am not sure why they feel they need to make a big deal about who gets “credit” for the story. The important thing is that we got some new info on our favorite company, who cares who submitted it.

Also, to people pretending to be me, please get a life.

    Tom

I am not sure about that. Apple simply does not like product info leakage despite all the hubbub it generates. Jobs is known to fire people for leaking info regardless of the publicity, even when the leak was not one before a keynote or something like that. He just views it as incompetence.

  4. I submitted the battery explosion article and didn’t get any credit. No biggie. MDN posted a link to a different article a little while later. Mine was to Engadget.com which also pointed to the original source.

Heck… with all the bashing I dish out to MDN, they should be sour towards me. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

4-core iMac Core 2 Quad anyone? Or would the performance be too close to the Quad Mac Pro?

  6. Dell may have 8-core machine, but unless they ship it with Linux, it ain’t gonna do much.

If I couldn’t buy workstation from Apple, I sure wouldn’t buy it from Dell. Sun just says “Workstation”.
