Prudential upgrades Apple Inc., expects Leopard release end of March

“Prudential Equity Group analyst Jesse Tortora upgraded computer and iPod maker Apple Inc. on Monday, predicting an earlier-than-expected launch of both the company’s new operating system and Adobe’s Creative Suite 3,” The Associated Press reports.

AP reports, “Tortora, who boosted Apple to ‘Overweight’ from ‘Neutral Weight’ and raised his price target to $105 from $100, expects Macintosh OS X Leopard and Creative Suite 3 to be released simultaneously at the end of March – about one or two months ahead of Wall Street expectations. ‘We think this powerful one-two punch makes a great deal of sense, as it will likely unleash a flood of pent-up demand for both companies’ products,’ Tortora wrote in a client note.”

“Looking further out, Tortora said Apple will also benefit from the launch of its iPhone, a wireless Internet device and cell phone, in the U.S. in June, followed by Europe in the fourth quarter and in Asia in early 2007,” AP reports.

  1. It takes about a decade to field a large aerospace vehicle. That means that if a new spacecraft were launching today, it would likely be launching with a PowerPC G3 or a Pentium III!

The Shuttle design started in the early 1970’s and utilized a full MB of core memory. High tech for that time, but already woefully obsolete by the late 1970’s when IC’s became practical.

  2. Macula you’re right about the June.. no way it’s coming out next month.. but you’re wrong about it being a “reasonable yet not earth-shattering upgrade.”

It’s been well over a year and a half closing on 2 when Leapard will ship, I expect there will be plenty of significant new tech when it comes out.

  3. Leopard will come out in May and just about everything will be updated except the Finder, which is PERFECT!

I mean abysmal, but it will strangely not change. Nor will there be a significant improvement to the Dock.

At WWDC 2007, Apple, Inc. will introduce the MacTV, a CRT iMac with an analog TV tuner and radio reciever and an iPod that uses “magnetic tape” storage. This will be the best year EVAR!

  4. Leopard needs a lot of work from what we have been reading, so June would seem the earliest date for a trouble free version to be introduced. Apple should take the necessary time to get it right, while spring turns into summer…. Meanwhile Tiger works well.

While cost conscious people are no doubt waiting to buy computers loaded with Leopard, it is not clear yet that present Tiger users will be in any rush to upgrade.

  5. According to this, the iPhone has been launched in Asia already!

“Looking further out, Tortora said Apple will also benefit from the launch of its iPhone, a wireless Internet device and cell phone, in the U.S. in June, followed by Europe in the fourth quarter and in Asia in early 2007,” AP reports.
