PC World’s 50 Most Important People on the Web (Apple CEO Steve Jobs #2)

“Here’s who’s shaping what you read, watch, hear, write, buy, sell, befriend, flame, and otherwise do online,” Christopher Null reports for PC World.

The Top 5:
1. Eric Schmidt, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin, Executives, Google
2. Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple: No doubt you’re sick of the media bonanza surrounding the every move of Apple’s CEO, but when one man’s appeal for DRM-free music reverberates around the world, it’s hard to ignore the power he wields. Jobs popularized legal music downloads and legal TV and movie downloads. And though the iPhone won’t be released for five months, its demonstration at MacWorld Expo suggested that this product might finally popularize Internet browsing on a mobile device.

MacDailyNews Note: We’re not the least bit sick of it. Quite the contrary. More, please!

    Vista torrented ?

    But then on second thought … who would be crazy enuff to download it ? .. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />

  2. It’s early March and the iPhone will most likely come out in late june, so let’s break the difference – 4 months to go ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Just a note. No Billy, no Ballmer. Here is the scoop on the only MS guy to make the list

    22. Ray Ozzie
    Chief software architect, Microsoft

In 2006, when Bill Gates abdicated the position of chief software architect at Microsoft after 30 hands-on years, observers applauded his choice of successor: software visionary Ray Ozzie. The creator of Lotus Notes and Groove collaboration software is now charged with ensuring Microsoft’s technological relevance in an age in which the Web threatens to replace the traditional desktop OS. A pioneer in computer-based collaboration, Ozzie seems well equipped to do the job. One piece of unsolicited advice, Ray: You might consider updating your blog as a first step.

  4. More, please!

Absolutely! More creative thinking, more devotion to excellence, more concern for the user experience… By all means, let’s have more of everything Apple does that most other companies ignore completely!

Whenever “observers” “applaud” a “visionary”, run screaming. Esp. when that visionary has to clean up a colossal mess made under the company’s founder.

Like a slow-motion stunt scene, the MS trainwreck is already well in progress. Vista is just the first car off the rails.

MS has no place on that list.

  6. How about MDN coming up with a 20 most important people at Apple? We know the word outside of Apple just wants to hear about Steve, many of “the rest of us” wouldn’t mind hearing about the rest of the Apple team.

    How about it?

  7. Dear Thomas,

I agree with the first part of your statement that hacked versions of Vista are all over the torrents sites but it is being downloaded like crazy. (I guess common sense isn’t too common.) Whether that continues over the next few weeks is another matter. Frankly, the only thing I’m waiting for is for Apple to release Leopard so I can go out and buy a new iMac.

MDN word: research. Which has absolutely no relevance whatsoever but I thought I’d throw it in just for the hell of it.
