Apple releases Daylight Saving Time Updates (10.4 Tiger and 10.3 Panther)

Apple today released Daylight Saving Time Updates for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and 10.3 Panther.

This update addresses recent changes in the way Daylight Saving Time will be observed in the U.S. and Canada beginning in March 2007 and includes the latest time zone information for the rest of the world.

On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the United States. Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November.

Apple’s Daylight Saving Time Updates are available via Software Update and also as standalone installers:

  1. Only Congress, the stupidest 535 people on the planet, would have passed this act. Those of us in the northern tier of states are just now beginning to have morning light when our kids go to school and this will set us back to darkness quickly again far too early. Why don’t they try to solve real problems. I had to patch 16 computers at work today for this already, now on to my 4 Macs.

  2. If they keep doing this, there won’t be any night left, and animals and plants that need darkness to survive will be the first to go.

The few remaining drive-in movie theaters will be put out of business and global warming will increase because the sun will never go down.

It’s a plot by the Unilluminati.

  3. Anyone that complains about this law is a moron. Daylight Savings Time is a good thing. Even the libbie treehuggers are happy with it because it saves a lot of energy usage. It’s a win-win for everyone, except for those that are too lazy to run a simple software update at least anyway…

  4. In 2005 it was a Republican congress, just so peeps don’t think it was the current lot, and I think more stupid people could be found writing comments on MacDailyNews than are/were in congress (conversely congress is/was probably more corrupt/untruthful than MDN commenters). The number of daylight hours per day in the annual cycle doesn’t change, just the measurement system we chose to use.

However the amount of daylight we receive could be an issue. Maybe we should be more concerned about global dimming, which may have something to do with chemtrails. Whatever I think it would be a good idea if we limited the amount of stuff we dig up from under the ground and pump in to the atmosphere.

  5. Daylight savings time might have made some sense when we were a largely agrarian and under-educated nation. Now it’s just stupid.

Schools at northern latitudes (oh, think of the children!) should simply change their schedules to start classes an hour later in the standard time zone. Is that so hard? But no, we need to inconvenience everyone twice a year to make them reset several clocks.

It also rather messes up payroll for third shift workers in a number of places which run 24/7. Just an incredibly stupid idea.

  6. Who, turbowv? George Dubya Bush?

He’s done far more stupid things than promote this bill as meaningful energy reform and get his cronies in Congress at the time to serve it to him on a silver platter. No need for rants on this one.

  7. Funny how the press is saying that this daylight savings time change could cause massive problems and confusion, like y2k. The press is assuming that Microsoft won’t be able to fix it before March.

But, here’s Apple with fixes out already. Who would you rather have supporting your OS?
