Apple today released Daylight Saving Time Updates for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and 10.3 Panther.
This update addresses recent changes in the way Daylight Saving Time will be observed in the U.S. and Canada beginning in March 2007 and includes the latest time zone information for the rest of the world.
On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the United States. Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November.
Apple’s Daylight Saving Time Updates are available via Software Update and also as standalone installers:
• Daylight Saving Time Update (Tiger): http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/daylightsavingtimeupdatetiger.html
• Daylight Saving Time Update (Panther): http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/daylightsavingtimeupdatepanther.html
there was an article in the paper this morning about how there were going to be “y2k” types of problems when the time change rolled around because no one was ready for it. funny!
Only Congress, the stupidest 535 people on the planet, would have passed this act. Those of us in the northern tier of states are just now beginning to have morning light when our kids go to school and this will set us back to darkness quickly again far too early. Why don’t they try to solve real problems. I had to patch 16 computers at work today for this already, now on to my 4 Macs.
But Gow, you’ll have much more daylight when you get home from work, to spend that quality outdoor time with your kids…
I like eggs.
Thanks for the updates Apple!
What a silly behind way to fix our energy problem.
Congress needs to grow some…
If they keep doing this, there won’t be any night left, and animals and plants that need darkness to survive will be the first to go.
The few remaining drive-in movie theaters will be put out of business and global warming will increase because the sun will never go down.
It’s a plot by the Unilluminati.
Hmm. Well, I’m happy about the change. I hate loosing daylight.
Anyone that complains about this law is a moron. Daylight Savings Time is a good thing. Even the libbie treehuggers are happy with it because it saves a lot of energy usage. It’s a win-win for everyone, except for those that are too lazy to run a simple software update at least anyway…
This is an unfunded mandate, right? Can I deduct my bandwidth and efforts from my income tax?
If, on 9/11, the planes had taken out Congress I’m not sure that would have been worse.
@AshNazg
Is that like losing daylight?
The evidence that DST saves energy is weak at best. The real reason for it is increases the amount of shopping people do in the late afternoon.
THAT’s why I’m always an hour late!!!
In 2005 it was a Republican congress, just so peeps don’t think it was the current lot, and I think more stupid people could be found writing comments on MacDailyNews than are/were in congress (conversely congress is/was probably more corrupt/untruthful than MDN commenters). The number of daylight hours per day in the annual cycle doesn’t change, just the measurement system we chose to use.
However the amount of daylight we receive could be an issue. Maybe we should be more concerned about global dimming, which may have something to do with chemtrails. Whatever I think it would be a good idea if we limited the amount of stuff we dig up from under the ground and pump in to the atmosphere.
Daylight savings time might have made some sense when we were a largely agrarian and under-educated nation. Now it’s just stupid.
Schools at northern latitudes (oh, think of the children!) should simply change their schedules to start classes an hour later in the standard time zone. Is that so hard? But no, we need to inconvenience everyone twice a year to make them reset several clocks.
It also rather messes up payroll for third shift workers in a number of places which run 24/7. Just an incredibly stupid idea.
They did it in Australia and trust me on this, daylight saving fades your curtains.
MDN magic word simple as in simple minded.
iPatch….Apple reinvents daylight savings time.
e Reader must be a terrorist- sympathizer.
Good Lord, a 9 mb file just to adjust DST on my Mac?
You can’t save daylight, it’s doomed like we all are. About the only thing you can do is stop the earth’s rotation or keep running west at 1,670 kph (at the equator, your speed should vary with latitude).
funny thing is people laughed at this back during the 70’s energy crisis when the Carter administration tried the same thing.
9 mb to fix the time!?!
Remember when a Mac ran off of a 400k floppy!
Talk about software bloat, sheesh. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”excaim” style=”border:0;” />
Uh-oh, the name of “he whose name we dare not speak, he who enrages the Macolites of the left coast” was mentioned, yet not savaged in the MDN post. Helmets on! Incoming rant barrage!
Who, turbowv? George Dubya Bush?
He’s done far more stupid things than promote this bill as meaningful energy reform and get his cronies in Congress at the time to serve it to him on a silver platter. No need for rants on this one.
Funny how the press is saying that this daylight savings time change could cause massive problems and confusion, like y2k. The press is assuming that Microsoft won’t be able to fix it before March.
But, here’s Apple with fixes out already. Who would you rather have supporting your OS?
What about the update for Mac OS 9?
(Sorry. Someone had to say it…)
