“Microsoft Corp’s first major operating system release in over half a decade has seemingly done little to spur PC sales at the Internet’s largest online retailer, where Macs continue to dominate sales charts,” AppleInsider reports.
AppleInsider reports, “Two days after the consumer release of Windows Vista, Apple’s Mac line of personal computers handily maintained its lead atop Amazon.com’s best selling ‘Computers & PC Hardware’ sales chart.”
“In all, Macs accounted for 7 out of the top 8 sales slots on the hourly-updated rankings, including the top 5 spots. The top-selling Vista-enabled PC was a 13-inch Sony VIAO notebook, which captured the 6th spot. Vista notebook offerings from Toshiba and HP followed, filling the 9th and 10th spots, respectively,” AppleInsider reports.

Go Apple Go… were just getting started!
First Post – Yea baby!
Wait till the new Apple OS X comes out
Resistance is Futile
Meaningless. Who buys computers from Amazon anyway, especially when the 2 largest PC manufacturers don’t sell there (Dell and HP). Apple computers have been top selling computers on Amazon for a long time, it means only marginally more than the fact that Macs are the top selling computers at the Apple store in all honesty.
On that news…I just bought me some more AAPL! Sweet.
Mea Culpa. HP laptops are sold on Amazon. Still hands up anyone who has bought a computer off AMazon?
WOW WOW WOW
Or did someone else say that already. Sorry Bill.
WOW. just wow.
hehe, Sydney, same post same time.
someone else said it on another post but it bears repeating…
“Tipping Point”
Not sure if we’re there yet, certainly not for Apple to be dominant in market share, but we’ve got a long growth curve ahead for the forseeable future.
I agree with pog. It would be nice to have a bit more perspective on having 7 of top 8 sales spots. How was it a year ago, two years ago? I’d like MDN to make some research on that.
Whoever is monitoring such things needs to get a life.
just wait when more security issues are reported about Vista, Leopard is released, and major apps become Universal binaries. Ouch for Apple’s competitors.
pog is right. Nobody buys computers from Amazon, which is why we actually have sales figures for people buying computers on Amazon. Geez, but no matter what subject comes up on internet forums, there always seems to be an “expert” with imaginary cold hard data to back up his assertions. (Insert rolly eyes here.)
Go Ragu!
Agreed that Amazon is not the best yardstick by which to see how well a particular computer manufacturer is faring in the marketplace, but they do sell a great many and so may shed some light on what’s happening at electronic retail. I’m sure there numbers for these items are up this past year.
Yo, pog. Dell is sold on Amazon. That said, it’s kind of a waste of time to get a Dell on Amazon. Like going to the tobacco shop to get Nicorette. Yeah. In any case, Amazon being the world’s biggest online retailer, then being no. 1 is a big deal. Being nos. 1-5 is an even bigger deal. I don’t care what you say.
Stab: I don’t think Dell is sold on Amazon, at least the only Dell stuff I could find on Amazon was used. Also Amazon may be the worldn’t number 1 online retailor, but I dount they are the #1 online computer retailor, or even close.
Anyone trying Vista and then not buying a Mac must be classified insane…
> Mea Culpa. HP laptops are sold on Amazon. Still hands up anyone who has bought a computer off AMazon?
Apparently enough Mac users and switchers to give Apple seven of the top 10 stops. I bought my most recent Mac from Amazon.com.
Vista is slower than XP (by a little). Vista has crippled graphics when you don’t use MS tools. Vista has DRM out the wazoo.
No surprise it’s not bursting out. It’s just going to weasel in through the usual corporate droids…
Also HP is sold on Amazon as well.
That’s amazing, actually. Does anybody out there have any idea what percentage
of personal computer sales Amazon accounts for?
This article makes no sense.
Vista is not hardware — Vista is SOFTWARE.
And it is at the TOP of the software best-sellers list!
This article is RIDICULOUS!
VISTA IS APPARENTLY SELLING FANTASTIC!
Not to mention the fact that the 2 largest PC vendors do NOT sell their computers through Amazon: HP & Dell.
Not to mention the fact that the 2 largest PC vendors do NOT sell their computers through Amazon: HP & Dell.
Amazon does sell HP desktop and laptop computers. Not Dell, obviously.
I think the point of the article is that consumers are not rushing out to buy new PC’s because of Vista.
