When the price drops to around $200 and available as an external-I am all over this.
Hopefully it will come in my new Octo-core Intel!!!! Anyone look at the price of media!! It’s like 50 bucks a disc! Ouch!
Give it a year or two and you’ll see this as an option for all Macs.
You can buy a lot of HDDs for that price.
Just think. Some day we’ll be tossing these now $50 Blu-Ray disks in the trash can like so much junk. AOL will be mailing them to us ad nauseum, loaded with spam.
It will be interesting to see if Bill Gates is right, and the current generation of Blu-Ray and HD DVD disks will be the last removeable media, eventually displaced by broadband network distribution and backup.
I think I may already be there. I hardly every write a CD ROM anymore. Everything gets backed up to a big disk.
Apple wants to stream us our videos and cut out the need for DVDs of any size.
When the price drops to around $200 and available as an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray hybrid-I am all over this.
Here’s todays Ars’ take:

Steve’s half brother….
In a year or two Bray will be what DVD is today. They’re already working on a 100gig disc. technology dates to soon these days, don’t rush out and buy, but don’t wait to long either. Stuff should be 200 bucks when they’re first released if they want to sell this stuff.
So, how long does it take to burn a 50 gig disk?
Is this drive considered to be times 1 speed?
Why, oh why can they not put out a medium that is better protected from destruction? My God, even the lowly floppy disc had a better shelf life than DVD’s and CD’s. Reckon it is to keep everyone buying?
“Now hold on, Skeeter. If that thing don’t ever break, they gonna buy just one. Let’s think about this a little longer…”
For some reason, I have been expecting Apple to announce Blu-Ray availability later this year, maybe by summer. No reason to say that, just been expecting it.
geez thats more then an iPhone – the most expensive device ever created
Don’t know about the floppies. Seems that half of them I try are toast in just 10 years. Can’t even reformat them….

I wish the pron industry would come along and pick a format already so we will know which one will survive. I don’t want to have to pay more for a dual format.
I wish Apple would make blu-ray available on all macs and help end this war. blu-ray is superior! Apple is superior!
“I wish the pron industry would come along and pick a format already so we will know which one will survive.”
Sony already made the choice for them: no Blu-Ray for pr0n. Which = R.I.P. with Betamax, Blu-Ray.
Yours Smugly:
You are grossly uninformed, Sony has no position on pornography on their media. Perhaps you should read before spouting off with what you read a month ago.
