“As part of a recent interview with an Italian trade paper, an Intel exec explained that the chipmaker’s involvement with Apple’s iPhone’s hardware was at once more substantial and complex than previously thought,” Aidan Malley reports for AppleInsider.
Malley reports, “Intel Italy chief Dario Bucci told Il Sole 24 Ore that while the semiconductor firm had no direct part to play in the CPU powering Apple’s new handset, the chip is still an Xscale and therefore shared a link to the company’s efforts.”
Malley reports, “Intel had originally developed the Xscale platform in 2002 while branching out into mobile phones and PDAs, but later sold the architecture to Marvell Technology group in June of last year when it chose to return its attention to x86 and Itanium designs. Bucci identified Marvell as the source of the Xscale during the interview.”

Reducing dependence on Samsung is critical for Apple. Samsung is a major cell phone manufacturer and Apple could be hamstrung by Samsung’s holding back on parts delivery.
Wow its already up on Wikipedia saying the iPhone is using the ARM11 processors
ARM Architecture
That was fast
Wouldn’t that be Samstrung?
Steve will not be happy about Intel’s revelation. Hasn’t the word gone out to offer no comment regarding Apple products. If the iPhone was released competitors could disassemble and analyze it. iPhone is not expected until June 2007. Intel should pay for contributing to industrial espionage.
Is there a processor architecture that OSX can’t run on?
tune zang – i don’t think i can install OS X on my commodore 64, and when i tried putting the install disc in my toaster, well…
Aww…I was kinda hoping it would be a Samsung PowerPC. That would have been good for a laugh…

Marvell X-Chips? Mutated from X-Scale technologies? iPhone takes the world by Storm?

The world is on fire! The seas are rising, they will soon over-top the Rocky Mountains and flood Nebraska. Katrina was caused by an overheated butterfly flapping its wings in Africa.
Al Gore (if that is really you)
Nebraska will not flood. It is in the center of the triangle from George Washington’s vision. It will be one of the safest places after the invasions.

Katrina was caused by Bush. The guy on TV even said so.

Nebraska was smack in the middle of the Louisiana purchase, Jefferson’s baby.
IMO if you want to hunker down the place to be is Cheyenne. Relatively rugged, central between the borders, Mississippi, and west coast. Tough to raid, easy to defend. Good protection from floods.
Or you can stay put and go about life, knowing there’s nothing we can do to stop Apocalypse anyway.
Your call. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
As for the iPhone? I dunno… maybe it’ll work in bunkers.
Yes, but there could be super-angry tornados that shoot from Bush’s eyes because he wants to kill babies and old people. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”rolleyes” style=”border:0;” />
What? I was told that Katarina was caused by the “terrorists”…
Oh the irony. Steve drops the Newton, a touch screen computer powered by the ARM6, just to develop a touch screen computer powered by the ARM11. Hmmmm.
We’ve been freezing here in Texas. Thank God (and George Bush) there is global warming or it would be even COLDER!!!
Also, I don’t trust Samsung. They remind me of that company the Oriental guy in “Lost” worked for. That’s logical, isn’t it?
