Report: Apple to announce iTunes Store deal with The Beatles via Super Bowl commercial

“The worldwide Beatles grapevine is buzzing over the distinct possibility that the long-awaited remastering of the Fab Four’s United Kingdom CD back catalogue will finally see the light of day — by June,” Terry Ott reports for The Toronto Sun.

“As per usual, Apple/EMI is presently mum, but sources with knowledge of the project say that two scenarios are possible for the release of the minimum 11 UK albums,” Ott reports.

Ott reports, “What’s more, the long, heated court feud between the Beatles’ Apple Corp. and Apple Computers [sic] over naming rights might finally have been resolved. The belief is that Beatles songs at long last will be available for downloading from Apple Computers’ iTunes, as soon as next month.”

“The buzz is that two companies apparently will finally collaborate on Beatles music — for an exclusive three-month, restricted deal allowing Apple Computers’ popular iTunes to offer downloaded, remastered Beatles songs, perhaps even before the CDs are made available,” Ott reports.

“Apple Computersplans a ‘special’ announcement scheduled for a Super Bowl commercial on Feb. 4, which may give more indication as to where the new remastered CDs will debut first,” Ott reports.

  1. I love it. The Beatles are so in touch with today’s rock and roller.

This move is heavily symbolic. It shows that everyone think iTunes is the way to go. Even a company with a REAL grudge against Apple, Inc.

    Just my $0.02

  2. According to Adweek, “(CBS) is not identifying specific sponsors, but several marketers have confirmed that they’re in the game, including Anheuser-Busch, which
has agreed to buy Super Bowl spots through 2012; General Motors; CareerBuilder.com; Federal Express; and GoDaddy.com. PepsiCo and Frito-Lay brands will also be Super Bowl advertisers.”

    No mention of Apple Inc.

  3. Good news.

    Great publicity.

But, am I the only one that doesn’t see the big draw in adding The Beatles to iTunes? As a band, they are legendary, but The Beatles aren’t making new music. Doesn’t everyone already own their CDs, at least their album of greatest hits? Can’t you rip that into iTunes at whatever quality you choose? So why would anyone buy remastered digital tracks at the current iTunes quality for a not so great album price?

What’s wrong with a little drug use? (use vs. abuse)

Hey I’ve got an idea, lets let people ingest whatever they want. I mean do you really care what I’m smokin’ while I’m surfing the net?

In any case RK, have another beer and spare us the hypocritcal comments.

Oh and since this forum is for mac users… I love the iPhone, I want an apple TV, HOWEVER, how’s about announcing a mac product or two at MACWORLD for cryin’ out loud! sheessh

  5. Tommy Boy,

Do you have ANY idea how significant your statement is???? Apple Computer will speak to us from beyond the grave, with John & George from there, Apple Inc with Paul and Ringo on this plane of existance.

    ITS A BEATLES REUNION!!!

    ROCK ON!!!
