“Rob Enderle continues to bang the drum of the Forrester Research report from a few weeks ago that supposedly showed a drop in iTunes Store music sales in 2006, an interpretation that Forrester itself has since said is not the case,” John Gruber writes for Daring Fireball.
Gruber writes, “Enderle dismisses a report from ComScore that shows that iTunes sales are actually up 84 percent from the year-ago quarter by claiming that the ComScore report was paid for by Apple and therefore not trustworthy… but ComScore’s chairman Gian Fulgoni personally refuted Enderle’s claim that their iTunes report was commissioned or paid for by Apple. It’s apparently something Enderle just made up, utterly disparaging ComScore’s integrity.”
Gruber writes, “Thurrott gets co-jackass honors for calling Enderle’s column ‘excellent.'”

Ignore customers, give them nothing, ignore stockholders, answer no questions, be as arrogant as possible, instill that image throughout your company… collect several hundred million upon exit.

From one who bought AAPL when Scully and Amelio ran the company into the ground, I’m more than a little grateful to have seen my stock grow over 700% since those dark days. So much for giving customers and stockholders nothing, eh, RN?

I read the original pieces — actually, POS — by Enderle and Thurrott. It is breathtaking to behold their level of stupidity, dishonesty and abject hatred for all things Apple.
And to think some people actually take them seriously!
I don’t think they’re stupid. Mean, oddly aggressive against Apple, for hire, opportunistic, dishonest… yes. But not stupid.
Guess Gruber finally figured out that the best way to get the negative attention off of him (re: MacHeist) is to shine the light on someone else. Good job Gruber!

Enderle and Thurrott are the ignoramuses of the IT industry.
It is a tribute to the sheer ignorance of so many people thet they still get quoted.
But then Microsoft has been built on ignorance…from within and without, so there is money in it.
I disagree with the comment about Gruber using this to deflect his own criticism. His Jackass of the Week column has been a feature of his site for some time now, and I don’t think he’s really taking any heat over the MacHeist thing. He has a point, but that’s another argument for another day.
What Enderlie said, in effect, was that Steve Jobs has a Reality Distortion Field and that when it comes to iTS sales he has it cranked up to 11.
Apple is trying to impress the Movie Studios right now and I have no doubt that Steve’s RDF is indeed cranked up.
Having said that, both Enderlie and Thurrott get a significant portion of their incomes directly and indirectly from Microsoft. If you don’t believe me, just ask them about their Ferrari Laptops loaded with Vista.

Gruber pointed out that the announced ‘Charity Event Just Before Christmas’ to help smaller Mac Developers made an enormous profit for the promoters.
Profits that size for advertised ‘Charity Events’ are actually illegal in many of the countries where the ‘Donations’ came from.
The developers are big boys. They knew what they were doing when they signed up.
The ‘Charity Donors’ who got some software in return for their charity donation would be amazed at how small the portion of their donation, that actually got to the charity(s) of their choice, really was.
If they had marketed it as a ‘Software Sale’ and not a ‘Charity Event Just Before Christmas’ there wouldn’t have been much objection, no matter how stupid the Developers who signed up for so little looked.
Thurrot is a flip-floper. One day he’s praising OS X then the next he’s saying “…I like so much about Windows Vista, and it stands in sharp contrast to the refined but stark and unfriendly world of Mac OS X…”
The thing I like most about Vista is that it’ll never be on my computer.
C’mon now, give me a free P(iece) of C(rap) notebook and I’ll squeel like a pigtet!
