Wife, daughters of missing CNET editor found alive, James Kim still missing

“The wife and daughters of missing CNET senior editor James Kim have been found alive and airlifted to a local hospital, authorities announced at a press conference in Merlin, Ore., Monday afternoon,” Leslie Katz and Michelle Meyers report for CNET News.

“James Kim left the car on foot two days ago to seek help and has not been found, the official said. The search for him continues,” Katz and Meyers report.

“According to the official speaking at the news conference, the conditions of Kati, Penelope and Sabine are not yet known. More details are expected at a press conference at 5 p.m. PST, which CNET will stream live,” Katz and Meyers report.

“At approximately 1:45 p.m. PST, search-and-rescue officials were notified that a vehicle and a female waving an umbrella were spotted by a helicopter search crew near the Rogue River in the area of Bear Camp Viewpoint off Bear Camp Road, according to a statement from Oregon State Police. This location is near the Curry/Josephine County line in Josephine County,” Katz and Meyers report. “The official speaking at the press conference said that the helicopter had been hired by family members.”

  1. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> This is partially great news. Now if they can find James Kim it will be a happy ending. Hopefully the kids and wife are okay health wise.

  2. Zealot/RepoMan…

I think it has something to do with a wider interest in humanity, especially if any of the visitors here might know the individuals involved or have some method of affecting the outcome.

Human life is more important than the Macintosh or the iPod. Have a think about that.

  3. I’ve yet to see and news coverage that explains what happened…was the car found off-road (i.e. was there an accident?) or were they stranded from a mechanical issue?

It’s great to hear that the wife and kids were found, but awful that he’s still missing after going for help. 🙁

Hopefully a complete happy ending is yet to come.

  4. I can’t believe they were in that car for 7 days! I can’t wait to hear the circumstances. It’s not surprising to me that James left the car after 5 days on foot to seek help. Wouldn’t you? After 5 days I would lose hope that someone was going to happen to see me.

  5. Yo “Fanatic Realist”, then why don’t we have all the articles on all the missing persons and tragedies going on in the world? If I want to get depressed I’ll visit CNN’s website thanks. Keep this place on tech news only..

  6. I used to work for the newspaper in Grants Pass. That’s a really remote area if I remember correctly. Not sure why they chose to go that way at this time of year, unless it was specifically their destination.

My heart goes out to the family. Hope he’s found safe and sound!
