  1. Happy Thanksgiving to the whole MDN family!!!

I hope you don’t have to work today and all weekend like me.

    Have a good one.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving all. And those of you who are non USA residents–just eat until you can’t move, and you’ll get in the spirit of the holiday.

If my local Apple Store wasn’t in a Mall, I’d head out there today just to hang out on my day off, but I”m not setting 10 feet NEAR any shopping center today!

  3. I just bought an MBP C2D loaded from the Apple Store Lenox Square Atlanta. Parking was brutal. The MBP is so sweet. No discount on the MBP but an nice discount on an Incase carrier.

I just played the Doom 3 demo. AWESOME! It’s Marathon with a better story and so much better graphics.

Happy Thanksgiving to you in the U.S.
World peace to all. Even neo-cons. Hah! I kid because I love.

P.S. Towertone: I’m not a Tang. Don’t blow my real cover.

  4. Gregg,

they’re selling very well all over the world. The only model that is not selling ‘very’ well is the mini; they’re just selling ‘well’.

I hope Apple learns from this and introduces a ‘normal’ sized (and priced) desktop.

  5. Finally ordered my new Macbook from the Canadian online store today! 😀

Along with the Incase sleeve, I saved about $112 before taxes (unlike the US we’re taxed for online sales).

Now I just have to wait half a month for standard shipping to get it to me…

  6. Eh, for those of us who get the Edu discount these deals are decent, but not enough to go rush into the store (or click the order now button) for. I think it’s great that apple is doing sales, but unfortunately I think most people wouldn’t buy the products unless they were already planning on or at least seriously considering buying the product already. That’s a great market base, but one or two products will broader appeal would have probably been good. (Say, 5-10 mac mini’s per store priced at $299 and $499 respectively or those Cinema Screens with a $200 price drop from 8-10 AM or something like that) Something that will push people into the stores.

I however disagree with the earlier poster that Apple should release a PC at a competitive price point to Dell, Lenovo, etc. (ie a Bargain PC). One of the reasons why Apple is so successful and sought after is because when they do things, they do them right (for the most part) and they use the best equipment, design styles, most innovative technology etc. (It truly is remarkable that only two of the PCs they are currently selling are not at Core 2 Duo or better, and the rest are at least Core Duo Processors while other companies are still getting rid of their Centrinos, Celeron D, AMD chips, and so on) Cutting corners to release that $599 desktop would inevitably tarnish Apple’s reputation since that machine would not work as well as many imagined. Sure it would probably sell well (Remember when the iMac was introduced how that flew off the shelves because of it’s price) but would fail to build a base of loyal customers. Apple is far better off building machines in the mid to high price range that are reliable and have great quality as they will get repeat customers and higher overall satisfaction with the product. Short term profits are good, but be mindful of the long term as well. The world had computers before Apple and certainly could have computers without Apple in the present (though I would certainly regret not having my beautiful Mac to stare at until the wee hours of the morning).

  7. I partly agree with you Anthony. I’ve always seen Apple’s ‘Special Offers’ as stingy – especially so because they make such a big hoot over them. Ikea play the same game of announcing a great ‘SALE” and then knocking about 2% off most of their prices and 50% of the junk they cant sell. I can’t help smiling over Apples store-opening ‘goody bags’ too – what’s in ’em? a bloody T Shirt and a few tokens.

On a different note, I think Apple definitely need to introduce a box between the iMac and MacPro… they’re losing a lot of customers in this space. ‘Pros’ who need SOME power but not the amount to undertake serious video edits etc, and in a case that’s smaller, less industrial-looking and more ‘friendly’ than the MacPro monster.

  8. With brand new PC’s going for $150 during these Black Friday deals, the average person will think that an iMac for $898 still isn’t a bargain.

    Maybe.

It’d be interesting to see what those average people think of their $150 PCs six months from now. Esp. when that iMac will handily run Leopard, and that PC can’t even beg to run vista.

Life is a bargain. You get what you pay for.

  9. On a different note, I think Apple definitely need to introduce a box between the iMac and MacPro

Unfortunately that’s where the G4 Cube sat.

Today, isn’t the top-end iMac kind of in that space?

Hmm Apple could rebox the top iMac motherboard as a headless, but would the cost savings be enough to matter? Maybe if Apple bumped the bus speed more towards the MacPro end?

    Just thinking out loud…
