iPod shuffle sales could propel Apple iPod unit sales to record levels

“An analyst for PiperJaffray said Wednesday strong sales of Apple Computer’s new iPod shuffle digital music player could make his current quarter iPod unit estimate appear low. ‘While Apple has maintained a robust inventory, our checks with 40 big-box retailers and online vendors show that demand is outweighing supply in these channels,’ analyst Gene Munster wrote in a research note, referring to the new $79 flash player,” Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.

“Also in his note Wednesday, Munster said checks with big-box retailers show that store clerks are suggesting iPods significantly more than other brands, and added that they are making those recommendations more frequently than they used to,” Marsal reports.

Marsal reports, “While Munster acknowledges that it’s ‘way too early to make a call’ on Apple’s December quare iPod results, his analysis last week of the first month of NPD data (October) for the quarter suggested the Cupertino, Calif.-based company would sell between 14 and 15 million units. ‘Since the shuffle was not released until 3 November, the player will likely have a material impact on the November and December NPD data and our current expectations could prove to be low,’ he explained.”

As we said yesterday and last Thursday (and as Munster himself also warned was possible), the expectation of 15 million iPods is simply too low.

  1. Honey, If I was giving up head, you wouldn’t even be allowed in line.

Seriously… AAPL blew the lid off of 90 today without so much as a pause, and the after-hours market seems to be steady. There was even a spike to 90.75.

Thank you, Microsoft, for throwing the iPod into such dramatic relief by showing us how bad a media player can be. Ballmer, I could kiss you.

…if I was in a persistent vegetative state.

    …and blind.

…and you were wearing a mask or a sack on your head.

On second though, we’ll skip the kiss.

MW: ‘matter’ (and anti-matter annihilate. keep your Zune away from my iPod)

  2. and that would be a prejudicial statement.

btw, what the hell are you talking about?

Not understanding Zune Tang’s humor at 3:43?

I didn’t think you posted that because I thought you were smarter than that.

Sorry if I gave you too much credit.

Or is it you really posting at 5:23?

    This is fΩcked up, MDN.

  3. Oh yeah, poor Towertone, some people are ruining his wittle MDN.

And all his bigotted and racist rants never ruined nothing for all those non-whiteys. (Well, maybe it did, but I guess it doesn’t matter to dear Titty.)

  4. Ampar…I understand why you left MDN. I had a post removed yesterday. (thats why I think Zune Tang secretly works for MDN which gives you a hint as to what it was about). This is just becoeing a chat drop in centre…..

Where are the interesting insightful comments? Instead I just get asshole pictures from Frank, ChrissyOne calling everyone honey, and repetitive MS jokes (errr….excuse me, hilarious sarcasm) from Zune Tang.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  5. Hey y’all
Just checked Amazon.com’s top sellers for electronics, and the Zune is #54. And there is only one entry for it.

The iPods, however, are all over the charts, with 5 iPods in the top 10.

Christmas will be good this year. Say NO to M$.
