No Scroll Zone: Bill O’Reilly slams Apple iPod

“Apparently sparked by the PlayStation 3 launch, conservative pundit Bill O’Reilly took off after video game culture and digital technology generally in yesterday’s Radio Factor,” GamePolitics reports. “The controversial talk show host, who advertises his program as a ‘no spin zone’ offered the following spin on Apple’s iPod:”

I don’t own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod… If this is your primary focus in life – the machines… it’s going to have a staggeringly negative effect, all of this, for America… did you ever talk to these computer geeks? I mean, can you carry on a conversation with them? …I really fear for the United States because, believe me, the jihadists? They’re not playing the video games. They’re killing real people over there.

  1. Was this a stupid, hypocritical thing for hin to say? Yep. But I think he’s trying (and failing) to make a different point. It’s not iPods per se that he really wants to attack (after all, are there really 70 million geeks in America- are they the ONLY ones buying iPods?). I think he meant to make a point about complaicency. About life being too comfortable and not dealing with the “important” issues of the day. About not having the stamina to stand up to fascism no matter what the cost.

Personnally, I think that may be true. But to make that arguement using iPods as a scapegoat is absurd.

    Just my $0.02 worth..

  2. I wouldn’t exactly call that “slamming” the iPod, sounds like he is more worried about the gamer trolls that have no lives (which after watching the frenzy over the PS3 and Wii this weekend, I’m not so sure I really blame him for that).

Either way, virtually all these political types (both conservatives and liberals too) are total techno idiots. I totally ignore anything they ever say regarding technology.

  3. I like Bill. Recently he has gottena little wierd. He is definitely stepping away from reality. I guess his story is proof positive that fame and money can screw up anyone.

I mean do you really beleive that Ballmer will ever behave normally again? I bet you he considers the “Monkey Dance” to be completely normal.

    just my $0.02

  4. Add this one to the Bill O’Reilly Is A Twat file. The only people that believe a word this guy says are ass backwards conservatives with little to no education OR conservatives who know better but yet support him cuz he helps their agenda. I wouldn’t be surprised if this has something to do with Al Jazzeera going Mac. I wonder what his fellow conservative pundit (read moron) Rush Limbaugh (a Mac geek) would have to say about this? Oh, right, he’s too busy making fun of people’s disabilities to even notice. Someone needs to tear this prick a new one.

  5. According to Webster:

Fascism: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

“Radical Conservatives” are Facists, and they’re why we’re in deep trouble now. They want you to enjoy nothing and live under oppression. At the same time, they enjoy their own lavish lifestyle. They just don’t want it for you.

These people try to fix what’s in themselves by forcing beliefs on you.

Bill O’reilly is a perfect example of a “Radical Conservative.” He’s writing children’s books when he’s not making obscene phone calls to women on his staff.

    Jerk!

  6. This is all out of context. He was referring to people socializing less and using machines more. The riots over the Playstation 3.

Seriously, out of context. He’s right about the sad state of affairs when people are lining up and fighting over a PS3.
