“Apple’s design chief, Brit-born Jonathan Ive, collected his CBE [Commander of the Order of the British Empire] from Her Majesty the Queen in London today, Apple has confirmed,” Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.
Evans reports, “The designer of the iMac and the iPod, Ive has been instrumental in Apple product design.”
“It’s the latest in a string of plaudits for the influential designer. In 2003 he was named Designer of the Year by the Design Museum London and he also holds the title of Royal Designer for Industry from The Royal Society of Arts,” Evans reports. “The award was announced in December 2005.”

Apple’s Jonathan Ive named Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire – December 31, 2005
Collection a CBE.
What a Gong show.
I wonder how much design he still does at Apple and how much of his job is management? I think it’s fascinating that his ideas influence the design of thousands of products and services that have nothing to do with Apple. I hope that they do whatever they need to to keep him around. Write him a blank check. His importance to Apple is second only to Steve Jobs.
Jonathan Ive is the man.
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire? Sounds like something Bill and Ted belong to.
Never mind the CBE, give him the Throne, your Majesty!
Jonathan Ive has my dream job.
But what about Sir Steven Ballmer? Doesn’t he deserve something too?
The Knighthood will follow in ten years or so.
“Arise Sir Johnathan!”
mudflapper;
Ditto. BIG ditto.
Soon to come:
Legions of people spelling his name as ‘Ives’
I’d like to see the crest that was designed for him.
Sir Paul McCartney’s features guitars. Does Sir Jonathon Ive’s feature iPods? iMacs? If so, which models?
Jonathon! Another well deserved award! I’m sure your countrymen and women are deeply proud of your accomplishments!
“Arise Sir Johnathan!”
I agree with the sentiment but, sadly, Her Majesty does not say “arise Sir…”
MDN Magic Word: most as in Most Excellent
LOL JIMBO!!!
Congrats! Sir Jonathon. Well deserved!
We’re very proud of him over here!
Do you think the Queen uses a mac? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
I’d be surprised if she didn’t at least use an iPod. (I’d be surprised if anybody didn’t use an iPod)
OMG, I read the headline and assumed Mr Ive had finished building his time travel device and had gone back to the 16th century to meet Queen Elizabeth.
Then I realised that MDN must actually be referring to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.
Phew.
I love J!
I do what ever he want´s!
He is so nami nami!
!
Be surprised.
Long Live Sir Jonathan! Hurray!
In my country we use cassette tape. Women are not allowed iPod.
