“Europe’s second-largest semiconductor maker, Infineon Technologies, reported a narrower loss for its fourth quarter on Nov. 16. But traders looked past that improvement and ignored speculation that Infineon may have won a supplier contract for the rumored Apple iPhone. Instead, shares fell more than 3% as market players appeared to fret about next quarter, when the company says it expects the insolvency of a major customer to have a negative impact on revenues and earnings,” Kate Norton reports for BusinessWeek.
Norton reports, “Munich, Germany-based Infineon’s net loss for the three months ended Sept. 30 was €36 million ($46.1 million), as sales rose 16% to €2.29 billion ($2.93 billion). That compares with a €100 million loss a year earlier… Infineon, the former chip unit of Siemens, has been trying to distance itself from the cyclical computer memory chip business and focus on areas such as automotive and communications chips, where margins are higher.”
Norton reports, “One cause for optimism surrounding the communications unit has been growing speculation that its chips will be used in the Apple iPhone, which could be unveiled shortly. Infineon and Apple are keeping mum. Should such a phone come out, it would go some way toward restoring investor faith in the wireless segment, says Dresdner Kleinwort’s Sanders. But even if 20 million iPhones were to be sold in 2007, Infineon can’t make the communications arm profitable by the end of the year unless it wins more customers, he says.”

I think I read that Infineon makes the TPM chips that are in some of the Intel Macs.
Clearly, this is part of the vast conspiracy to impose tursted computing upon us.

Yeah you might think the TPM’s bad-but at least it’s preventing OS X and other Apple software from having to go through the annoyances of activation that plague windows users. And Apple as usual are early adopters, but it’s gonna be in all other hardware soon. Maybe even, since MS seems to be in control of Dell and the like, MS will block Linux etc. from running in Windoze boxes. Yes, they are gonna be that desparate, soon. At least Apple aren’t doing that.

No TPM is not preventing OS X being copied, and its not being “imposed” on us. Consider the fact that the latest Core 2 Duo Macs don’t even have TPM chips.

This is interesting to me for two different reasons. First– this sound legit enough to be real. Second– this sounds legit enough to be a huge fraud. What’s been floating around the net lately about M$ paying off bloggers to hype their stuff and to make suggestions about upcoming tech (to make people hold off their purchasing)?
