Steve Jobs gives Apple employees new 2G iPod shuffles

“Christmas came a tad bit early for employees of Apple Computer this year, each of which will receive a shiny second-generation iPod shuffle digital music player with the company’s compliments,” AppleInsider reports.

“The ‘morale booster,’ as some call it, extends from corporate all the way down to the company’s retail division, several employees told AppleInsider… In an email sent out this week, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs reportedly told employees to expect their new iPods by the end of the month,” AppleInsider reports.

JupiterResearch analyst Michael Gartenberg expects Apple’s new 2G iPod shuffle to “quickly become a hot fashion accessory in short order.”

Gartenberg blogs, “I’ve been using one here for a bit and it’s been amazing watching people’s reaction to it when they see it. Everyone who has seen it, wants one. The fact that it’s $79 just makes it that much more appealing… I suspect that we will see quite a few iPod owners adding a Shuffle just because of the new design.”

  1. In todays news Apple announced that they sold over 100,000 iPod Shuffle in one day. Steve Jobs, CEO of the hottest company on the stock exchange was quoted as saying: “We have made the best design, combined with the quality and full integration with iTunes software, it is no wonder that it is the hottest product this Chrismas season. At this rate, we expect to sell 60million by the end of the year. Let’s see Zuma trying to sell even 5,000 by the end of this month?”

Apple stock is up 15% at closing of the day.

in unrelated news, Apple announce that all of their 100,000+ employees will received a new iPod shuffle today as a token of their appreciation. No words yet if they will have to return them if they get laid off.

  2. “Christmas came a tad bit early for employees of Microsoft this year, each of which will receive a brown Zune digital music player with the company’s compliments,” PC Rag reports.

“The ‘bowl jammer incentive,’ as some call it, extends from corporate all the way down to the company’s software espionage division, several employees told the Rag… In an email squirted out this week, Microsoft executive Steve Balmer reportedly told employees to expect their new Zunies by the end of the month or possibly sometime in January…maybe,” PC Rag reports.

  3. Dear MDN,

Please upgrade the circa 1997 site design to something more modern with the following key features:

    – Allow us to “digg down” dumb ass post that are off topic, racist or just stupid $hit
    – Prevent anonymous crooks from stealing other people’s handles
    – Get rid of the “contextual” ads links

    Have a nice day!

  4. I received mine yesterday. It is a beautiful
    piece of design.

One issue, actually two, and it may be just me,
but I can’t seem to get podcasts to sync to it.
The main reason I bought the Shuffle was to
    listen to podcasts while working.

The other issue that I am having trouble with
is it won’t sync a playlist as I have set it up. It
automatically shuffles the playlist when syncing.
There is a major difference between the sync being
shuffled and me selecting the shuffle mode once
    I have synced the playlist.

I love the Shuffle but am very dissappointed with
these two issues. And I may be doing something
wrong, but I tried numerous things to get this to
    not happen.

  5. It appears that some songs in the iTunes store that were added to the store since the end of November will not play on 1st generation shuffles. They transfer to the shuffle fine but will not play. These same songs transfer to other iPods and play just fine. Many people are having these problems (see the Apple discussion boards). The only known solution is to burn the tracks to a cd and re-import them into your library (a royal pain in the butt).

If you have this problem, PLEASE contact apple either by the following link:

    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/ipod/

OR by calling the support number:

    1-800-275-2273

Hopefully, with enough complaints, Apple will be forced to correct the problem. It seems to me (and quite a few other people) that something changed on the encryption/the way they are encoding new music in the store that has made the music incompatible with our shuffles.
