Apple Computer expected to dazzle Wall Street with earnings report this Wednesday

“It will be Apple Computer that’ll most likely dazzle Wall Street when it reports earnings on Oct. 18. Robust demand for its new Intel-based Macs and Mac Books, as well as its next generation of iPods, should help the Cupertino, Calif., company easily outperform its earlier guidance of $4.5 billion to $4.6 billion in revenue with earnings per share between 46 cents and 48 cents for its fiscal fourth quarter. ‘Apple continues to innovate and dominate when it comes to digital media and products,’ says Standard & Poor’s equity analyst Scott Kessler,” Nicole Ridgway reports for SmartMoney.

  1. It is inexplicable how a company that makes over-priced machines with bare-bones mice and little third party software could have such success in business. Are there any PC users out there that can solve this mystery?

  2. Do’h, what a question. The answer of course is none. Those who solved the mystery switched already ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Remaining PC users have no idea why the others have switched nor why Apple could ever be successful. They still believe Apple will close doors soon, and they believed that for more than 10 years by now and repeat among themselves “You’ll see, it’s clear, this year we’ll see Apple closing down”. Usually they do not know anything but Windows, believe the internet is the thing coming when you have the IE program installed, that viruses truly infect computers and it is a common thing, believe Office is what runs their computer and expect Vista to be the true next big thing in computing. About Vista, they believe it will solve all the malware problems so that *finally* the others will be affected because the majority will be safe with Vista, hence the virus will attack other ecosystems to survive.

    PS
Not kidding, the above “can’t be true” description comes from actual comments and refrain from true Windows users. No exaggeration added.

  3. Lies, all lies.

Rob “The Great Prognosticator” Enderle says that Apple’s 4th Quarter will be a financial apocalypse with blood flowing through the streets and a wailing and a gnashing of teeth.

Then again, he might be an asshat.

In all seriousness, it’s worth noting that Apple will likely hit $19 billion of sales for FY2006 with the profits likely to be around $1.9 before all the one-time adjustments relating to the Great Share Options fsck-up. Compare this to where the company was even in 2002: $5.7 billion in sales and $65 million in profit. In other word, sales up by around 320%, and profits have multiplied around thirtyfold in four years.

And before all the standard naysayers troll in and say that it’s all down to iPod, it’s also worth noting that iPod will contribute only around $7.5 billion to that $19 billion which means that Mac sales have also played their part in Apple’s resurgent financial performance.

  4. MacZealot is clearly being sarcastic…
But he has a point. I’ve used Mac’s (and every computer you can think of and some you can’t) since 1984. They’ve been through some rough patches and were clearly way overpriced for a long time EXCEPT I’m typing this on a machine from 1999 running 10.4.8 and it works great (if a little slowly compared to my 17′ MacBook Pro)….
I won’t use an Apple made mouse…the Mighty Mouse is just silly if you ask me and the keyboards are both overpriced and not the best (again..typing this on the Apple keyboard that came with my dual 450 Gigabit Ethernet G4)…
The thid party software he refers to though is just crazy…iMovie, iDVD are both outstanding apps. iPhoto does very well though Picasa is clearly better in some areas and it’s free. Pages needs some serious work but is a great idea, and Garage Band is a very powerful (if pricey to build out into a more serious) tool. iTunes is world class and proves it (though the first iteration of 7 was very buggy).
I’m waiting for a better version of Pages with the rumored spreadsheet capability.
Watch for Pages to have some interoperabilty with Writely from Google and likely
some kind of online sharing for numbers and other kinds of Apple software too.
The future is coming to you in the care of Apple and Google. Enjoy it.

  5. Notice how the analysts are now saying Apple will beat their [Apple’s] sandbagged estimates, yet the analysts only repeat those earlier numbers. They are all frightened to venture an estimate. I think a blowout is coming and the minimum I expect is 1.6 million Macs sold. The maximum could be far higher and my guess for the number sold is 1.8 million. My prediction made back in July after the guidance session between Apple and Wall Street was that Mac unit sales would be closer to 2 million than 1 million.

We won’t have to wait long to find out how quickly the Mac market is growing.

  6. Yes sarcasm is a dying art. Very subtle and usually funny, depending on your audience. Somepeople here just don’t get it.

anyhoo……I can’t believe that many players are selling each quarter.
Really, doesn’t everyone who wants one have an mp3 player by now?
    It amazes me.

  7. The only thing Apple has to worry about is the innovation at Microsoft. Ballmer and Gates are two geniuses who squirt-out cutting edge operating systems and music players such as Vista and Zune. it will be Zunesday for Apple real soon.

  8. Zune may be an ipod killer. Vista may be an OSX killer. If so, now would be a good time for windows lovers to short Apple Stock (AAPL). Think about getting a home equtiy loan, (the rates are low, borrow to the hilt) and short aapl. If Apple Computer is such a loser, short it!! Do it now!!

  9. Dude, your name is going to be stolen again and again. Join the club. Your message will last, or all you are is a name. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smirk” style=”border:0;” />

  10. I’m going to need a Scooby snack and the keys to the Mystery Machine to solve that one. And some alone time with Velma in the back. Zoinks!

Captain Kirk: “This is a mystery, and I don’t like mysteries. They give me a bellyache, and I’ve got a beauty right now.”

  11. I’d like to be known as Mac Sellout. As long as I can always have a Mac and OS X it doesn’t matter. Of course, I’d also rather be known as Peter Sellers than Peter Boyle for obvious reasons.
