Parallels has released a new update for its Desktop for Mac software which now supports Intel-powered Macs with over 2GB of memory installed.
Desktop for Mac (US$79.99) also offers a new virtual disk cache option that lets users optimize either Mac OS X or the OS hosted on the Mac. The update also offers support for Windows Vista, so Mac users can run Microsoft’s forthcoming operating system on the same machine as Apple’s Mac OS X.
According to Parallels, the new Desktop for Mac software supports Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, delivers better support for USB devices (including Windows Mobile 2005 and webcams), and delivers full support for OpenBSD 3.8 as a guest operating system.

It seems to work great for me on my Pro laptop! Very fast.
No 3D support then?
I wanna play Flight Simulator without Bootcamp.
The problem is that graphics cards don’t support full 3D virtualization, but it is on its way…

I can’t decide if I want to run Vista on my Mac or slash myself one hundred thousand times with a rusty razor and then leap in to a pool filled with alcohol, broken glass and angry badgers. This is a tough one.
i tried the dev build of vist on my macbook through parallels. (couldnt resist) haha it really is pile of sh*t. its just xp with no menu bars on the top of the windows. thats useful!!!
this is going to be the best thing apple could have hoped for from redmond.
but parallels is needed for me to test my websites in IE. yes a pain in the ass, but a requirement none the less.
works great too.
carlo, why don’t you get a cheap-ass refurbished Dell and hook up to it using Remote Desktop Connection?
That’s what I use, RDC is about 2MB so I’m not wasting valuable disk space on my PowerBook.
Just a thought…
Ampar,
You are the KING of wit!!!!
Has any gotten their BlackBerry to work on WinXP in a Parallels VM? I’d love to be able to use it as a modem…
Thanks, MadMac! I decided that angry badgers aren’t so bad.
Put it this way, Ampar… the angry badgers in the pool of alcohol would be too drunk to be any threat.
Ampar I love the angry badgers idea. But wouldnt it be better to put Ballmer in that pool?
Not a good idea. Ballmer would squirt a zune ForSure.
“angry badgers in the pool of alcohol would be too drunk”
Naaah. It just make them meaner and more prone to make absurd bar bets. And they NEVER pay up. Dirty little cheats.
“But wouldnt it be better to put Ballmer in that pool?”
Then I might as well try to stomach Vista on my Mac. You see I’m built like a chair. Ballmer is my natural enemy.
Wow, it supports TWO operating systems that haven’t even been released yet (Leopard and Vista). Impressive!
