“Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) has received notebook orders from Apple Computer and will start volume shipments of one new MacBook model to the US vendor by the end of this year, Vincent Chen, an analyst at Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia (CLSA), was quoted as saying in a Chinese-language Commercial Times report last week,” Steve Shen reports for DigiTimes.com.

  1. Do we read MacBook as being the MacBook currently on sale or as being the generic Apple term for their laptops? Because of course, the MacBook Pro is still a MacBook. Chances are, whichever model is updated it will just be the processor. Of course anything more than that and it would pretty much have to be the Pro that gets updated since it’s the older design.

  2. MDN Magic Word: “planning”, as in , I am planning to buy sometime…

What I really want is a smaller MacBook, maybe 10″ screen, don’t need nary CD/DVD drive, nor modem, but regular USB, FireWire ports. Same ease of RAM, hard drive swap, etc. THEN I will buy instead of just planning to buy…

  3. Looks like you’ll still be waiting to buy, then, Mr. LaserKun. I don’t got Apple coming out with a smaller ‘book, nor the 15″ MB. If you look at the current model line, and the trimmings they’ve done to simplify the portable line, it’s really too neat and tidy to mix things up with a 15″ MB. I’m not saying I think a Newton’s out of the question – but isn’t type of device really being guerilla marketed to us with the whole iPhone thing? I would think Apple’s logic is to get on with the larger screen to sell you the whole package – positive computing experience from the couch! want a 10″? Go buy a damned Sony on Ebay. I think the 13.3 should just have options in matte finish. Seems like that’s more of a turn-off then any dimensional size. The 15/17 MBP is perfect – you still have the option to get down to the 13 ’cause the differences b/w the MB and MBP line (I think) are a lot closer than the PB/iB line. The MB is still a really fast little book!

MDN word: zipper. as in ‘this is a family restaurant. keep the mouse in the house mister!’

  4. I’ve got to meet with my credit union tech guy on thursday to help them purchase and set up 11 MacBooks for their trustee board. We’re setting them up with Parallels so they can have their xp blanket and office for mac. Now the question is, do I wait?

This is gonna boost me from 17 to 28 switchers since boot camp came out. I wonder if the apple board would give me a stock option grant as an “atta boy!”?

  7. Features I’d like to see include e ink and swivel screen to allow to be used as a book alternative. Have you noticed how many books children carry to and from school? They now need small suitcases on wheels, absurd. Text books could be updated more frequently and publishing savings can help offset technology costs.

  8. Ever noticed how handy the new click wheel zoom function is? I could even use a 10″ MacBook with my poor eye sight and I really have use for a small laptop without optical drive. Here in Asia a small laptop makes sense anyway.
