  1. who cares-not to start a political comentary, but, those crazy people do not want to figure anything out. they want to kill us because we are not them. while i do not agree that the deployment of our troops to fight this asymetric war (sending an ghetto gang might be more effective), i do subscribe to the theory that if you leave them alone to plan their next attack, we can expect the train stations, financial & cultural icons here to start exploding soon and often. while our troops deployed in iraq are providing a convenient american target for the extremists to attack (and the media provides them a powerful political stage, it is at least reducing the risk to millions of americans at home. i respect everyone’s right to disagree and protest the war, but i also respect much more anyone who offers an intelligent alternative.

this is not viet nam. there were no communists planning to blow up the golden gate. the only parallel i can make is the soviet nuclear threat of the cold war. while there we protests about nuclear weapons, they were about at the level of peta protests. our security was a dominant concern. the theory of mass mutual destruction was our iraq war back then. you, joe public, generally supported the strategy because it was cheaper for you than building a bomb shelter. the majority of the population has to get to an equivalent threat education level to put iraq in the proper perspective. don’t see this as any different than the cold war from a threat perspective. we just are behind it the same way.

trying to get back on topic, the fundamentalists are fighting against the influence of western culture on their lifestyle. so opening a mcdonalds is just as much an invasion as sending in the 1st cav. their use of western technology to spread propaganda and incite jihad volunteers is justified in their minds because their are using it as a weapon not a cultural pillar. our ultimate weapon is to create viable “western” economies to change the culture of rich powerful families, supporting a religion that conveniently tolerates and sanctifies their existence keeping 90% of their population deperately poor.

personally i’m not sure the sociological infrastructure exists in the middle east to support a “western” economy that creates a dominant middle class today. when bush says this will be a long war, he means it ain’t over until this happens. not saying there is not a desire to be middle class, but that the fear and stigma of the middle class being “western” is a real barrier. using technology, like the macpro to create content and run a small business, is on the path to create a middle class, but there is a long way to go.

mw: industry….the middle east needs more industry and less fear and hate.

  2. hey! Who Cares

    Your ignorance is showing.

The Middle East comprises of millions of people, and just like the US there are crazy people and average folks who seem powerless to correct the wrongs of a few.

Once we start thinking more like one world and not territorialized we’ll beginning to sort out our problems. Taking sides has always lead to conflict.

One World Bubba, in the beginning there were no boundaries and they were just one of us.

Now go ahead and take sides to this argument and watch conflict arise.

  3. Now they will use the Apple to blow us up and use the screen grating to slit our throats.

No need to, apparently – your own paranoia will already have scared you to death long before that…! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. Hey Mackie and One World – My ignorance is NOT showing and YOURS IS! Have you seen what these people are doing over there? Open your GD eye holes and look at the real picture. Nothing good is going to come from over there, nothing. Lets come home and protect ourselves and save billions doing it. Can you imagine if we spent all that money on our own and not on a worthless cause? Get the HELL out of the “middle east” and leave them to themselves. If they want to join the civilized world then they can. Or they can stay the way they are and have been for the last 1500 years, losers. We will never force those damn idiots to do anything not even over the next 100 years. It comes down to freedom and they just don’t GET IT!

  5. The problem in the Middle East is not just a few “crazy people.” The main problem is most of the “average folks,” who respond positively to tribal/Arab/religious triumphalism. In addition, like most defective societies, they insist on blaming outsiders for their own problems, ensuring that these are not corrected. Western societies embraces public self-criticism, while the Middle East does not.

  6. It is very sad that mac users claim that they are (open minded) and then i read a very prejudice comments from most of them on a topic like this..

You are not more open minded than any PC user … or any computer illiterate ..

You are not any better than Bush … or Blair .. ( if his name is spelled right ) ..

We forgive you only because we know how prejudice and biased the media around you is … and most of you are eating it …

forgive my poor english .. it is just like your poor understanding ..

    ( open your mind ) …

  7. Apple?
Isn´t the Apple of the religious symbols of the non-Muslim religion Christianity???!!!?? As in Eve bit into the Apple in the Garden of Eden…

No Muslim will buy a product promoting the religion of the heathen dog infidel Christians!

“O Prophet! Make war against the unbelievers [all non-Muslims] and the hypocrites and be merciless against them. Their home is hell, an evil refuge indeed.” (Koran, 9:73)

“Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends.” (Surah 5:51)

“Muhammad is God’s apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.” (Surah 48:29)

  8. Use the Mac Pro as a blast shield whilst at work.

Maybe now with the Mac OS, the extremists won’t be so angry all the time.

PS: The arab world missed out on WWII, and now have to learn things that western civ has already dealt with — peace through democracy.

  9. The mideast is a worthless part of the world. They bring death and destruction to the world. All because of their EVIL god. 5% do the evil work. 50% agree with it and smile at the death and destruction of others. So what is that 50% worth– 5-10 billion people?? Liberals are just plain clueless to true evil.

  10. Who Cares? — You have serious problems.

It is never okay to paint an entire people with a single brusque remark.

It may be best for us to leave Iraq soon, but mostly because we’ve fcked up their country quite enough. How would you feel if Iraqi soldiers had been occupying your neighborhood for the past three years?

Get a grip. There are decent, law abiding Arabs who would like computers to surf the internet, make videos, listen to music and generally make life enjoyable.

    Don’t begrudge them.

  11. ping,

    you’re quite right.

What you’re saying basically – if I may paraphrase – is that there are a few really sick people posting here …

… like ‘steve’ and ‘Who Cares’

It amazes (and shames) me that there are such petty-minded, prejudiced people in the Apple community.
