RUMOR: Apple’s ‘iPhone’ to be iPod nano-like candy bar form factor with choice of three colors

“Rumors of an Apple Phone have been ongoing for years with Apple laying claim to the domain iPhone.org since 1999 and the trademark for iPhone in 2002. Meanwhile, a number of Phone related patents have also surfaced showing that Apple has been researching this option,” arn reports for MacRumors.

arn reports, “Recently, analysts have claimed that the Apple phone is essentially ready with a brief description:”

The design will be an iPod nano-like candy bar form factor and come in three colors

“Meanwhile, Steve Jobs has been said to be talking up the upcoming phone, despite being traditionally secretive about unannounced products,” arn reports. “One reliable MacRumors.com source has provided a more detailed description of one of the prototypes for the upcoming Apple Phone. The description has yielded this artist’s rendition of the phone.”

  1. Well, we can all wish (and have been for a year and a half now), but I’m not sure an artist’s rendition of an anonymous rumor is exactly front page news, even if it is pretty and logical. Reminds me of the guy in the sandwich shop from last year. I’m still looking for that plasma TV with the built in computer.

  2. MDN – Please pass on posting iPhone rumors. They are useless. I’m tired of trying to avoid them.

    I know, I know…. then why’d I look at this post…. actually, I didn’t even read the dang thing.

So please stop with the iPhone rumors.

  3. Hey Buffalo,

please stop posting about what you think is relevant for MDN to cover. They are useless. I’m tired of trying to avoid them.

    I know, I know…then why’d I look at your post…actually, I didn’t even finish reading the damn thing.

  4. Leo,

Try reading the frickin’ article all the way through:

The click-wheel is closer to the bottom of the device with the screen taking a vertical orientation. The click-wheel portion of the device reportedly slides down to reveal a traditional numeric dial-pad underneath. The front is black, while the back is chrome like the current iPod.

  5. And here I thought it would be a slim-Jim phone with what amounts to a shuttle built in! Having it nano-based gives you a chance to justify making it twice as thick as any other new phone and gives you the option of selecting your playlist. So the click-wheel slides out of the way? There’s a potential ‘broken-by-design’ disaster waiting to happen.

When the iPhone rumors first started they were obviously no more than wishful thinking. Nobody is going to carry around a phone the size of a 3G iPod. The technologies that make the latest nano possible also make a combo nano-phone a reasonable proposition. Sure, it would be larger than nearly any other recently introduced cell phone, but no worse than some only a few years back – back when the rumors started.
