Avocent Corporation, a leading provider of audio-visual connectivity and control solutions, today introduced the industry’s first wireless high-definition (HD) media extender providing both wired or wireless connectivity in one product. The Emerge MPX1000 product provides connectivity for moving high-definition content from one source to multiple destinations incorporating HDMI technology. High resolution computer graphics up to 1280 x 768 resolution, HD video including 720p and 1080i, stereo audio, and control data are wirelessly transmitted to as many as eight wireless or wired receivers.
“We are pleased to announce the expansion of our family of wireless video and audio extenders with our first HD extension product,” said Mitch Friend, senior vice president and general manager of Avocent, in the press release. The Emerge MPX1000 extender was designed to meet the market’s push for higher resolutions by providing true digital picture and sound content delivery to displays for presentation and digital signage applications.
The Avocent Emerge MPX1000 HD multipoint extender includes a transmitter and receiver that provide feature rich, high-definition media support for use in professional audio-visual applications. The Emerge MPX1000 extension product extends video and audio over standard 10/100 Ethernet wiring up to 3000 feet and wirelessly through walls up to 150 feet, or up to 1000 feet line of sight with optional directional antenna. Audio-video synchronization is maintained at each display and all wirelessly connected receivers remain in lock step with each other. The Avocent MPX1000 HD multipoint extender has interchangeable modules for input of analog VGA signals or digital HDMI/DVI signals. The Avocent MPX1000 HD multipoint extender solution provides two primary user interfaces: an intuitive menu system that lets you access multiple web pages and a front panel display to control and configure the system. The extender also allows for several methods to control external A/V equipment through RS-232 serial and infrared connections.

Airport Video Express?
you’ll still need to get it out of you Mac onto their transmitter. Apple will use the built in hardware to transmit. – that is my assumption
Surfing for a DV converter the other day, I stumbled with an article dating back to 2001 speaking about a new protocol dubbed “Firewireless”. I dind’t bookmarked the page and I think it was being introduced by NEC.
Anyway, do you guys know if this new wireless HD connectivity technology is the same as “Firewireless”?

Yeah, since so much is actually availble in 1080p. Is there one station on any network (DSS, Dish, Cox, Turner, etc…) that broadcasts, or even plans to, in 1080p? No.
It’s like bitching about how W rated tires only supposed to go upto 186 mph on a BMW M5. The M5 is limited to only 155. You can’t even use the extra. Why bitch about it?
How much does it cost?
I wouldn’t expect Apple’s Airport Express Video to do as much, but I certainly expect it to be easier to set up and use.
