“Reliable sources have informed MacOSXRumors that Apple is planning to introduce a 23-inch iMac on the first day of AppleExpo during a special event that will take place in San Fransisco and will be streamed to London,” Alexandros Roussos reports for MacOSXRumors.
Roussos reports, “The iMac will have an across-the-line upgrade to Intel’s just released Core 2 Duo processor, sources claimed.”

Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro not upgradeable to Core 2 Duo (but iMac and Mac mini are) – August 09, 2006
First to say first?
Cool, but 23″? Isn’t that overkill, size-wise? Where’s my C2D MBP?
I’d rather see an $899.00 mini-tower.
If true, an interesting machine it will be. Too bad 5 years from now you’re stuck with a slow computer and a great screen.
gow, the iMacs have SOCKETED processors. So, you can upgrade. Get a clue.
“I’d rather see an $899.00 mini-tower.”
True, a tower for the rest of us….upgradeable, unlike the iMac and of course we would be free to choose a screen that would fit our needs.
The product gab between the Mac Pro and the iMac is…painful.
23″ iMac at the right price sounds like an interesting option for home theater instead of a $600 Mac mini (solo) and an acompaying widescreen HD TV.
I’d rather have a mid priced mini tower with multiple hard disks
I think we ALL would prefer to see a mini tower, but you see steve needs to push the new ipod, and itunes movie service, so what beter to do that with than a new TV… yes you heard me, this will be marketed as a TV; complete with coax inputs..
Eric,
Just because the processor is socketed does not mean you will be able to upgrade. You cannot drop in the Xeon, so why do you assume you will be able to drop in the Core Duo 3(or what ever it is called)
YES! 64 BIT HERE I COME, I WILL ORDER THIS RRRRRRRRRRROWR AWAY
BTW, GO CAL BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think $1800 Starting Price if true?

I WAS a PC user since I was 5, now 25. I’ve seen the light.
Release this on 9/12 and I’ll buy it on 9/13!!!
Well, you all may want your mini-towers, but this is exactly what I have been waiting for. I will use it for work for 3 years or so, then pass it down to the family for another 2+. I don’t need expansion I can’t get without FireWire/USB, and the screen being attached is just fine, as it has been with my previous iMacs, iMac2s (lamp), and eMac. In fact, I like the lack of clutter with a built-in screen — less wires and the PC-part stays up on the desk, hidden in the LCD frame.
Most of MDN readers want a minitower. However, talk is free, and I wouldn’t bet the farm on anything that gets repeated here as though it were “the way things should be”. For all you or I know, it’s the same guy posting at different blood sugar levels. I mean, Thorin really could be Ampar, or Tom Cruise, or Pete, or me.
I would REALLY like an Apple screen that I could also plug video into.
That’s why i bought my 215TW
(would prefer an Apple though)
MW= well, as in ‘oh well’
Umm, anyone stop think when was the last time that MacOSXRumors got anything right?? I wouldn’t get excited over any rumor they throw out there.
Has MacOSXRumors ever been right about anything?

A 23″ TV, I don’t think so. I a dorm room maybe. If a TV is on their minds, it had better be at least 42″ or it’s a no go.
I have a G5 with a 23″ monitor and was wondering the other day when this might happen and if it is true then I could become an Analyst and start rumours. My life would then be complete!
I think I am Psycho?
“Too bad 5 years from now you’re stuck with a slow computer and a great screen.”
A lot of 5 year old computers do just fine. Most of what people do on their systems doesn’t take a breakneck speed machine anyway.
Besides, at least the thing will still be running 5 years from now. A PC purchased at the same time will have likely become a doorstop by then.
23″ is the smallest they make that OFFICIALLY supports HD resolution – they wont use antyhing smaller unless they have new technology
…not sure if it’s true, but conceptually an iMac TV is a great idea. if it has coax inputs and a “TV” selection in Front Row….. I’d buy more than one of these.
they would never be able to keep up with demand.
hmmm I’m thinking UNIX multi-tasking. I can see me watching favorite programs and quickly switching to real work during commericals.
There are only about a dozen programs that I watch during the week, but the commercial time would amount to quite a bit of increased productivity.
If Apple introduces this thing (with TV tuner) I’ll be in the market for a new chair.
MDNW: Hell, as in this could be one hell of a product.
“Too bad 5 years from now you’re stuck with a slow computer and a great screen”
I use Photoshop CS2 on a 6 year old TiBook. I don’t doubt for one second that a 23″ iMac will be going very strong in 5 years time.
I’d take a 23″ iMac, or a Mac mini tower, and upgraded laptops, and an iPhone. I need a new phone, and am wanting an intel processor mac, and MacBook is what I have my eye on, although a 23″ iMac might get me sucked in.
